View Full Version : A small suggestion. Adv Med ID.

People change certs, and different commanders are sometimes in charge, so it's not always easy to identify who is an advanced medic on your team. On team speak, alot of chatter comes from things like:

ME: "Who's the adv.medic"
Player2: "Player1"
Player1: "Not anymore, I changed certs."
ME : "So we dont have one in this squad?"
Player1: "Nope"
ME : "****"
Player3: "No, I'm an advanced med"
ME : "Who said that?"
Player3 "Player3"
ME : "Ah, cool. Could you revive me please?"
Player3: "No, sorry, I'm dead."
ME : "Damn"
*I Respawn*
Player4 (First language isn't english): "Sorry, I'm an advanced medic. On my way."
ME : "....!....Never mind, thanks anyway, I respawned."

This might be an excessive case, but I'm sure you all recognise the situation.
What I propose is a simple little icon for Adv Hack, Adv Med, and Adv Eng. on the squad bar.

Then the squad commander simply looks at the bar, sees who is alive and who's a med and gives a single sentence order. MUCH simpler.

This may obscure the armour bar very slightly, but it's worth it. It could be made smaller too.

Simple, but very effective proposal. I usually squad with my outfit, and I've always been Adv Med so they all know, but I can see how this would be handy. Also, I see no reason why I can't have the symbol above my head and on the radar when I don't have my Med App equiped. This would help out, as everyone in the area you are NOT in a squad with, could see that there is an Adv Medic in the area. I'm not running around a busy battlefield with just a Med App out - that's like saying "Easy pickins' people, come shoot me".

Good Idea.

I like this Idea, there could be a little symbol in your icon for Adv. Med for revive's and an icon for a BANK. They would only show up if you have those certs and if you have the specific tool on you at the time.

I wish meds in the game got cross armbands, whether or not they are carrying a med applicator is another story, but that would make it easier to look around, see a med and know if you die there is one around. Or you could walk up to them and say "I need a medic". No more guessing. Same thing with hacking, there should be a patch on your back (face it, if you are a hacker most of the time your back is to everyone) it'll have some insignia like a computer or something to let them know you are an adv hacker, nothing is worse than thinking the guy hacking the tower and you are all waiting and he's not an adv. hacker.

I would like a pane that comes up, like the vehicle management pane, that displays your squad/platoon's certs.

Wow, I think that is a VERY good idea Tera. I mean they put the icon above our names, why can't they put a little something right where you drew? That's a very good idea man. I'm suprised no one else has thought of it.

and if you have the specific tool on you at the time.

yeah, good call. A little oversight on my part :p

There was a wish posted once on the official forums that I really like. The poster had made graphics and descriptions to go along with it. If I can find the link I'll post it.

Basically what he suggested was the ability for anyone in the squad to mouse over a name in the squad bar. When you clicked on the name, a menu would drop down. This menu would list certs and implants, battle rank, command rank, armor and weapon loadout, and would also give chat options.

Spork had said at one point they were looking into implementing armbands, dont know what ever happened to the proposal.

The dropdown menu would be a good idea, but it would take a while to implement. My idea could be done in the mean time in a matter of days.

I don't really think slapping a "kill me" band on somone's arm is a good idea :p. Pluss it might be hard for people with low textures to notice.

Maybe the icons should go on the left side, cuz if you see the armor is gone down that far, well then its easy to tell they obviously need it. :)

On low textures wouldnt be bad Tera since u can see the Shin pads,Arm pads, and backpack on low text so i think u would be able to see the armbands fairly well

yeah, but those are model additions. An arm band would just be skin based.

I really like this idea Tera. Being an adv medic I sometimes start reviving someone and they always release halfway through. I agree the symbol should go on the left side but that is minor compared to the magnitude of this idea. I don't think you need a symbol for every person, just the support chars. A little computer for adv hackers in the armor bar might help too. I can't tell you how many times I've found an AMS only to sit there and go "Who is adv hacker?", "Someone hack this AMS."

The symbols should be for Adv Med, basic engineering, and hacking or adv hacking. You don't need to be a combat engineer to support the people in your group.

I also like the idea of the armband, when on the battlefield I don't pick and choose who to kill based on their look, I kill the first one that poses an immediate threat to me. I don't think I'd bypass a guy who is shooting at me to go kill a guy running away from me with a med armband on. That's just me though.
