View Full Version : Stopping a tank's turret...
In this thread (http://planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1717&pagenumber=2), Guardian AngeL said he hopes he can "kill people by landing on them with a galaxy."
This made me wonder... if you could land a Galaxy (or a skeeter, reaver) on a tank, would it prevent the gunner from elevating the cannon?
Similarly, if the tank was close enough to a wall, tree or even another vehicle, would the turret's range of lateral motion be reduced?
This could be a rather interesting problem for the tanks if the cannon doesnt just clip through the vehicles or walls, especially for the Vanguard. That thing's cannon is HUGE... it sticks out like 10 feet past the hull
You'd have to be super careful how close you get to trees in a forest battle, or the entryways and corners of buildings when assaulting a base.
Er, anyway, I'd best end it at that before I really start rambling.
If any of that didnt make sense, I appoligze... channel surfing while typing doesnt work very well :D

Clipping problems, hmm.... honestly I dunno.

First thing I'll do in open beta...ram a tank into a tree. :P

i hope they make it so when a tank is near a tree or wall or other vehicle, it doesn't just go through it and makes it so that its restricted when you try and maneuver. and about the vanguard, why the hell would put the tanks cannon in front where it can' hit into everything if you are not careful enough. sure it might teach people to be better drivers but its still messed up.

obviously tanks are not going to magically go through walls......

that is true but there has yet to be a game where the tank barrel has propper collision detection so Im pretty sure they wont waste that extra bit of processing power to make sure the barrel
gets stuck on walls .
You're probably right ABRAXAAS.
But if that turns out to be the case, I just hope it wont be possible to clip the cannon through a building's wall and blast away at those inside :ugh:

They could fix that if the shell originates at the base of the barrel, that way you'd just blow yourself up! :D

I think the landing is auto so if you try to land on somone it probably won't kill them, I'm notsure though

I want a way to manually land.
Carl si teh winnar!
hehe I really hadnt thought of that... it would sure be an easy way to solve the problem though :)
As for auto-landing, I hope you can manually fly 5-10 feet above the ground. It'd suck if you couldnt use shallow washes, riverbeds, low hills, etc to help conceal your poor lil skeeter :scared:

Well.... perhaps you can set a prefered distance above the ground to auto-land. Or perhaps you can just turn it off.
That'd be great if you could turn it off entirely
It'd be hella fun to clip defenders off the walls ala Tribes

There should just be a button you push to auto land...
I don't know why the devs wanted to have mosquitos and such try to detect when to auto-land, it seems simpler to just have the player do it.
Or is this how it already works?

From what I've read you hit a button and it lands you, its not getting within a certain distance of the ground.
No idea
Maybe Hamma could enlighten us? :brow:

Thats how it was when I played, its not really restrictive.. you are not stuck at a certain height to land.. you could push it pretty much anywhere you were

wich is sweet cause then you can pull some crazy ass moves and then let the auto pilot take over :D

Of course not, its a tank, it will either drive though the wall, knocking a hole in it, or blow a hole.

I didnt think there were any urban areas where you could knock down cevilian buildings ..and im pretty sure you cant ram a tank through a base :p I guess you were just speaking hypotheticly:p

well of course most base walls wont be afected by ramming, though a few good shells should show them, but driving though such a hole has risks as your attack might make the building less then structurly sound.

i don't think you can put a hole in a wall and go through it.

althoug it would be cool to be able to make a hole in the wall, and the the enginers should be able to fix it????

Did you mean the Vanguard or the Magrider, which has a non turret gun in the front and a turret on the top, when you posted? Cause the only gun in the front of the tank is the Magrider all the other empire specific tanks just have a turret with the main gun/s on it.
