Using Linux with Panther I presume right? Pointing to a BIND DNS server? What were the last ten stores you shopped at? More then likely eight of them used Windows as a frontend to their POS system.

Oh I know lots of things run Linux... But it annoys me when uneducated punks jump on the "Microsoft Sucks" or "Microsoft has nothing good" train. 99.9% of them have absolutely no conception of how the administration of an enterprise scale network works.

I would love to sit down and have a chat with an enterprise network architect that has switched from a Windows based setup to a Unix based platform, but I have never heard of such a person that had a good reason to do so.

Is MS without flaws? Of course not... I am the first person to curse Microsoft when I have to spend 45 min installing security patches for an OS that is a year old. Or when I install my brand new copy of Office 2003, go to Office Update and have to download four critical patches to an application that came out two weeks before!

Will I ever install a Microsoft ISA firewall? Perhaps... But not till I see a year go by that ISA does not have one applicable security issue... I recommend Symantec Enterprise Firewall... That has had ONE security patch in the last four years I have been managing them. That security patch was only applicable if you were running an old version of the RealAudio streaming server.

How about the fact that *nix systems are more stable and secure then windows. Linux inparticular was built as a server. It does the job better then a windows platform. There is a reason why most of the major websites like Amazon run linux servers.

You gota make your posts under 5 words Hamma or 20% of your people won't read past the first line it appears...

But either one is fine with me, the new one is not all that much different, so unless you really want a change I wouldn't waste your time.

Those are some specifics there!

Wana take a wild guess how long my Windows 2000 cluster has been up? 24/7 for over a year and a half. That is pretty damn stable if you ask me! That includes an Exchange server that got pounded yesterday with 840,000 spam. Do you know how much stress it puts on the Information Store to try and filter 840,000 messages to delete the bounces and leave everythign else?

HOW does it do the job better then a windows platform? How long does it take you to make a user account, their e-mail account, then deploy the software they need to their computer with Unix? In Windows 2000 Active Directory Group Policy deploys software, customizable to the user's OU, exchange plugs into AD and their e-mail account is created within the user creation process. Unix would require you to either use a third party application or do all those steps seperatly.

Until you have physically stood in front of the servers that keep a Fortune 500 company in business you have absolutely no applicable experience with the real world.

Nah, like Squeeky says, this is a "thread hijack." If someone wants to discuss the merits of using Unix vs. Windows in a 10,000+ user network they can start another thread and describe their experiences with both Windows and Unix in those situations.

Of course not... But Billy Boy does care about his "nerd hoes" that get him a whole lot of business by not only giving every piece of MS software for free... But also gives little gifts:
http://www.geocities.com/squick.geo/amazon.txt

And Mac, the pinnacle of security right? Why from OSX's release to the beginning of October were there 23 critical updates for it. And don't forget the buffer overrun exploit that is still in OSX even after a warning on 10-28 and a full disclosure a few days ago.

But again, to obide by Squeeky's wish, either continue this discussion on another thread, or on alt.sex.fetish.fashion.

The Baltimore Sun reports that 34-year old Robert Preston Kersey had grown enraged by his roommates constantly playing their Xbox at high volume. According to the police report, Kersey emerged from his bedroom at 2 a.m. brandishing an automatic pistol. Rather than shoot his roommates, Kersey took aim at the offending Xbox and fired a single shot at the console. While the bullet's impact disabled the Xbox, its thick plastic casing deflected the 9mm round, which ricocheted away harmlessly.

Why did he shoot the Xbox and not the TV???? Why are people so damn dense!!!!!!!
