That day means little to me, but I can feel the pain.

My grandpa worked on those ships that got the shitjob, and was driving to them when they got bombed. One bomb actually came pretty close to his house. He also fixed the ships after they got bombed. Blackouts happepend throughout the days.

And my grandma lived in Germany in the time. So planes, sirens, guns, shells, she could hear them all. Though she was lucky they never really came into town. Blackouts happened 24/7....

But this is the day when it all happened.....though I posted about an hour late of the true attack.

Morn the lost, give thanks to the vets, and please go to church-they give out coffee.

I love the way americans are patriotic. If someone said something similar in England it'd be met with a few grunts and "meh"s.

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT'S PEARL HARBOR SPEECH

(December 8, 1941)

To the Congress of the United States:

Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with the government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.

Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleagues delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

This morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.

Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, Dec. 7, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.

I saw the most intresting show on the history channel last night, it was talking about how there was a diplomatic screw-up and the Japanese declartation of war was a little over an hour late. It was originally planned to coincide with the attack witch was to take place at 8am. Neither the diplomats or the japanese navy realize there was a screw up untill later that day. The Japanese pilots alive today said they felt dishonored and belived that war should be fought fairly. Not that it would have changed things as that could still be construed as "underhanded."

well whatever, we nuked 'em good in '45

Those who posted Canadian flags disgust me. You weren't even in WW2. All you did was provide shelter to refugees because nobody would bother wasting a bomb on you. You had no strong connection to us in Pearl Harbor, none at all. Britain was our buddies, they could be angry at Japan for bombing us just fine, but it was America that was bombed, so you wouldn't post a British flag on here.

first off, canada fought in eroupe, there were 5 beaches at normandy, utah, omaha, juno, gold, and sword, america had Utah and Omaha, with Omaha being the bloodiest of the fighting, i dun remember the beaches name, but canadas forces had the far eastern beach to fight on. on all beaches but omaha, had only 200 men died each, omaha had 2,000 die on it. Canada did fight in the war and did a damned fine job, but had no influence in the pacific theater, the main countries in the pacific, were austraila, america, china, and japan.

but just because canada had a smaller role, dosent mean they wernt just as important, all men that fought in that war, on the allied side, are heros in my eyes. and i would say the same about the germans, and japaniese, but their armies were brutal, and killed unarmed soldiers that had surrenedered.

Pearl harbor sucked, but, in the end, america became a super power because of it, and as long as i live, ill remember this day, and many others where americas heros fought and died.

Once more I must correct you, you dumb bitch.

Canada was more involved then you think. We lost 10,000 soldiers or so during one battle...

Most of them were sent against their will because the U.S cried for our help!

As far as Canada being U.S's bitch. I think not!

Canada did fight in World War Two. But their flag looked more like this (I think the shield is wrong: )

http://www.robesus.com/images/manitoba.gif

Canadians can post their flag, sure, as Pearl Harbor began the bloody struggle against the Axis powers for the US. Canada was already allied, and went to war on September 3rd, 1939 alongside Great Britain and its allies. They can fly their flag- they fought too.

Anyone posting the Rising Sun or a Swastika deserves a ban.
