hi. i have been looking at this game for a while now and really really want it, but my is quite old and cant handle. i am just about to buy a new pc with
amd athlon xp2600+
512mb ram
80gb hard drive
nvidia fx5200 128mb graphics card
i have a 56k dial up (broadband isnt available where i live yet)
i am basically just checking that this pc will be able to handle planetside with no problems or what it will run like. out of thhe list of components what would be the best thing to upgrade to make it run better?
also what is it like on the 56k compared to broadband, does it still run fine? and how long will it take to download all the neccesary patches (i am going to get the new expansion aswell so im not sure whether i need to download patches aswell)
sorry about all the questions but i would really appreciate any help you can give me.
thanks in advance!!!!!

56k modem wont hack it im affraid. Sorry.
I know how annoying a 56k is, I've had one for years. I got my adsl this June.
The first patch took me 6 hours to download on ADSL.
Multiply that by ten for 56k. 60 hours O_

Don't get the expansion it is not worth it at all!! I play on a P4 1.4ghz 512mb ram and a Geforce 3 64mb video card. So you PC will run the game fine. Would be faster with 1gb or ram (from what I hear) As far as 56k I don't know, I play on Cable.

i would suggest getting a full gig of ram and a better vid card. the ati 9800 pro is only like 300 bucks the non-pro non-se (always make sure it is not an SE version SE stands for second edition) version is about 250 and you can easily OC it to 9800 pro speeds.

mayesey, download the free trial and try it out. Then your questions will be answered. If you can't download the trial, you'll find the updates hell. They are large and frequent. The first patch you'll get will be MASSIVE.
I'd seriously advise forgetting this game till you get ADSL and play 32 player BF1942 games on EAUK servers.

the patches are a few hundred megs large i think. im on 1.5 mbps down stream ADSL and it takes me about an hour to download the patches 1.5 mbps is 1500 kbps compared to 56kbps get it? your talking about 25 times slower then my connection roughly. so expect to be downloading for a good 25-30 hours. if you cant afford a ati 9800 try for a geforce 4 ti 4200

Not that I know of, just wait till the end of January when you get ADSL. The game will be better and it won't take ages to download the patches.

Maysay, how much (in ) are you paying for this system
1gig of ram would be better for you, and if you cant stretch to a 9800, get a 9600 for about 140
5200 will not hack it at all, pile of crap :( Theyre just gf4 mx's with dx9 to be honest

On 56k the patches will take FOREVER. I have a question, what is your 56k ISP? If its AOL dont even bother getting this game till you get a better ISP. This game on AOL 56k is HELL, in mid-large battles it takes 3min to reload, send a chat, respawn, even die, and you can never see the enemys true location or anything. Trust me, i played on AOL 56k, but i have also played on SBC YaHoo 56k and that is actualy playable. Not the best in larger battles, but playable on a good 56k. Thank SBC for my new DSL line :)

Well you seen the system, how much would it be?
1gig of ram is about 50 on top, and a Radeon 9600 (cheap but wicked) is about 140

Get the 9200 ATI graphic card. Its pretty cheap and it'll work on PS. Im using an ATI 9000 and I have no problems what so ever. On high res the graphics look good enough for me.
So if you need to save money and want a good performance on PS. You'll atleast need an extra 256mb of DDR ram so you'll have 768mb in total. Also get the 9200 graphic card. Getting these two things will help you run PS and it costs less than going out and getting the 9600.
Although I do live in Canada so prices may very. But highly doubt it's any different in the UK. If I knew how much the price was in pounds i'd give it to yah.

im not sure im having a mate build it for me and he said between 300 and 400 but he hasnt confirmed it yet. with the extra ram i suppose it would go up an extra 40 and im not sure how much more that graphics card is in comparison to the 5200

Its a bargain. You'll get good performance and it doesn't cost as much as 9600 or 9800.
