Never really thought about this... but will players be able to jump?
I know that sounds like a dumb question, but I haven't heard anything about it, nor have I seen anyone jump in any videos. It would seriously hurt the quality of the fighting if you couldn't jump.
Anyone have a definite answer on this?

Agreed. Good question, and why not, im sure this has been asked, but it's on the subject, why not the ability to go prone?

You'd better start doing a little research on that prone thing. Wow, you're lucky you're here and not another PlanetSide forum, man you'd get flamed. Just search for 45 secs. you'll find it.

Since Vanu Max armour can do that powered jump thing, I suppose that everyone else can too. Not much call for it in such huge environments, though.

Yes...you can. Jumping however will use up some of your stamina (which replenishes over time), and there may be limits on how frequently you can jump, although I'm speculating on that. No idea on how high you can jump.
Vanu MAX is different. While it may have some sort of standard jump shared by all armors (although heavies probably wouldn't jump very high), it has a special ability that draws from a separate energy pool and allows it to jump quite high, as in "on top of buildings".

They probably will include jumping but personally I don't think it adds much to games like this.
I believe it would be better to have a keyed jump which auto jumps you you to the next platform or whatever. Sort of like that game "Turrok" you didnt have jumping but when you needed to jump from platform to platform if you ran the proper speed and once you hit the edge of a ravine or what have you, you auto jumped to the platform (You didn't auto jump but you jumped, you would still have to line your self up with the next platform/destination)
Yet then you can see where jumping is useless, such as Tribes2, of course the jetpacks make it useless but even if there were no jetpacks the tribes2 jump would simply be a way to get to a desired place, it gives basically no advantage unlike it did in the other FPS games.
Regardless whether or not there will be a jump system I am sure it will be well implemented and not bunny hop bonanza 3002.

Agreed. They'd bloody better do it well, or they'll have large swarms of gamers leaping in a very strange manner up to their door to ask them what on Earth went so hideously wrong.

You can jump
You cannot go prone.
You can crouch.

Prone lackage is probaly to keep the game going at a decent pace.
But what type of jump/
Can you bunny hop or are you slowed to an undesirable pace like in cs?

You probably can't bunny hop.
I hope we can't.
Bunny hopping = BAD!! (well in 90% of games :))

If you jump too much you lose your stamina anyways. Thus making you planted to the ground :p
I'm gonna have to disagree with you Faust, jumping is very important in Tribes and Tribes2.
Not only does it aid in skiing, but if you try jetting without jumping first, you'll be going nowhere fast
edit - bunny hopping is teh suq :P~

Actually I heard that prone was left out because of clipping issues. (legs sticking through ground)
Personally tho I think you're right about prone slowing down gameplay, it doesn't add much to most games anyways.

Jumping is important for dodging. For example, if some guy shoots a rocket at your legs, you are gonna wanna be able to jump over it.

I can pretty much guarentee that jumping will kill your cone of fire.

Juping will kill your ability to aim ,but im pretty sure you can jump because the ,max armour has thrusters to facilitate the jumping cause its so heavy and i DOUBT it will be the only thing that can jump:D but i could be wrong :D

Maybe in quake but there are no AI rockets and AT rockets have a small blast radius. So I think jumping will be used to get around and over small obstacles.

I take it you mean "anti-infantry" rather than "artificial intellegence". Had me confused there for a sec.
I expect the thumper to have a pretty significant blast radius... and since you can set the fuse to "on contact", it'll be quite similar to the "go for their feet" stuff you see in quakes and UTs and such.
Ditto for grenades thrown by hand. And from the punisher. And from the TR Pounder MAX (anti-vehicular). And their buggy (gren launcher on the top).
TR seems a bit gren-happy too.
High ROF + grenades =
And from another discussion (don't remember which board), you CAN block the blast from your teammates. So if you know it's going to kill you, you might as well try and get right on top of it to protect your mates (or cover them with steaming gore... whichever). Various parts of your body will cast rays to the grenade. Any that are obstructed cause you to take less damage, and SJ has specifically stated that people block these rays.
Gives new meaning for this guy:  Take one for the team!
So stay the hell behind the MAX. It was already a good idea, but now we know it's even better.
