My monitor keeps blinking from normal to a light yellow color every so often is this a sign that my monitor is going to die? its a 17" flat CRT

Possibly.
Try a couple things first:
1) Hook it up to another pc and see if it does the same thing.
2) Try a different cable.

Usually thats the VGA cable and not neceassarily the monitor itself. Unless your lucky enough to have a removable vga cable, or can call monitor manufacturer to see about getting a replacement which means opening it up and doing alot of unscrewing, not alot you can do.

I wouldn't try any unscrewing unless you know what your doing...monitors have toxic gases in them don't they?

Don't open it unless you know what you are doing. Monitors also store a lot of electricity in capacitors. They store enough to kill you.

Guess I know what I am doing since I am still alive lol. Death by toxic gas or electrocutioin.... damn. I've replaced vga cables on about 20+ dell monitors, and still alive to tell the tale.

haha You are suppose to discharge the capacitors when opening the monitor up. It is a rare case for someone to die from it. It just can happen. Just be really carful.
