It's not that I don't like RPG's, its that this is a PLANETSIDE fansite, go find some FFXI forums if you want to talk about it so badly. I doubt anyone will miss your presense.

This is a Planetside site, obviously. To play devil's advocate: So? This specifically is a message board. Successful message boards which this one obviously is tend to have a life of their own.

What you have to ask youself is how important is the community factor of the boards? Planetside is a rather limited topic no matter how you look at it. Unless you want to have nothing more than threads speculating about what's next, bitch fests about balancing, medicore play guides written by people who know...or at least think they know what they're doing and poorly written short stories based in the Planetside world you're going to have to open up other topics. Why have a political debate forum? That has nothing to do with Planetside. Why have a Lounge? Poorly made flash videos and jokes no matter how funny don't have much to do with Planetside either. Now obviously we can talk about things other than Planetside, the boards have almost as many non PS topics as related ones if you look at it.

I wholeheartedly agree a FFXI forum would be dumb. It's too limited in scope. But what about an "All Other Games Forum"? Or maybe just an "Placating the Whiney Fucking RPG Players Forum"? Why not give them a place to talk about the games you don't care about that you don't have to visit. Name someone who plays them and does care about them as moderator of that forum and get the topics out of the lounge and to somewhere you don't have to deal with them.

Obviously this is your site, Hamma. I think everyone knows that. You can do whatever you want with it. But allowing the Political Debate Forum and The Lounge and all the threads that have nothing to do with Planetside that go along with them, then being annoyed when someone makes a thread about FFXI "because this is a Planetside fansite" is at least a little hypocritical no matter how you look at it. In the 9ish months I've been here I can't recall you ever getting annoyed when someone started a thread on another game unless it was an RPG. If the fact that people are talking about RPGs on your site perterbs you, give them a forum, give it a mod and be done with them. Why alienate members of the community simply because they happen to like a style of game you don't?

but he's got a point, political forum is really nothing to do period with PS, its just another lounge. But having a FFXI forum just doesn't count. Soon some one will want a Call Of Duty Forum, and maybe a Car Forum, or maybe a Porn Forum (we want porn forum).

I like it the way it is. Political forum though is really random and isn't apart of PS in any which way though. I'm just pointing that out. So really, making a FFXI forum is just as ok as the Political Forum.....just I'm not a big RPG fan....so dont make that forum....but i'm not a Political Forum fan either....cause i always get pwned in wat I say....

An Anime Forum is very limited in scope and appeals to perhaps too small of a minority on PSU to justify it. A FFXI forum is the same thing; There's just not enough people to justify it's own forum. An RPG forum would probably be too limited as well although that might be open to debate I suppose. An all other games forum though? I'm sure almost everyone here plays games other than Planetside.

Personally I don't really give a fuck either way, as I said I was just playing Devil's advocate. But if nothing changes then I don't really see the point in complaining about FFXI threads. People who post here who want to talk to other people who post here about FFXI are going to start a thread. Why would they go to another forum to talk to the people who post here? Telling them to go away simply because you don't like a particular game or genre of games is, well, dumb (excluding Hamma since this is his sandbox). It's bad for the community as a whole.

Like I said though, I don't really care what's done. If I'm looking for a place to discuss FFXI I'd probably look elswhere myself since this wouldn't be the best place to garner information about the game /shrug

Look, I don't mind the threads every now and then. But I'm sure as hell not going to create an FFXI or Other Games forum. The reason pol debate exists is because nobody like pol debate, and it erupted in every damn thread we had at the time. It was needed. The lounge exists for people to mess around, post personal topics, funny topics. That way game discussion is just that, only game discussion.

This site ceases to exist without PlanetSide, like it or not. This site will die when PlanetSide does. There are enough general gaming sites and forums on the internet, we don't need another.
