If you havent seen this already, smoke dropped a bomb on the forums with hints at introducing Capitol buildings to each continent with the new dynamic link latices.

These work with Dyanmic Global Lattices. The concept is simple: Each continent has a particular facility that is the Capitol. Capture that building, and you have "Domininion" over that continent. (Dominion gives the benefits of a Lock.)

How hard is it to take a Capitol? Hard. You have to take 3 out of 4 other "sub-capitol" buildings in order to drop a powerful force dome around the Capitol, allowing you to attack the Capitol. Until then, it's completely invulnerable.

Now...get Empire bonuses depending on the number of continents your Empire is currently Dominating (those continents you own the Capitol) on...and allow drop podding on any continent, regardless of which Empire has "Dominion".

for full details, you can check out smokes reply: http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/planetside/Forum17/HTML/000004-4.html

i personally think this will make battles over continents a lot funner. I cant wait.

Will PlanetSide finally have a feel of accomplishment? Find out next week when Smoke ravages the conceptional minds of forum goers with another tasty sample of "In"

They better be bringing in new buildings and not just redefining a techplant or something else as the capital with some new shield equipment. Hopefully they will be bigger than any building in even the hart.

He basically said that at first it would be just a regular building, but over time they would develope a whole new structure exclusively for the capitol.

I'm very impressed with what the dev team has been doing lately. For a long time there I'm sure everyone felt pretty much forgotten by SOE, but with all the recent changes it is hard to ignore the fact that Planetside is quickly becoming the game it was meant to be :}

What pengy said. This new concept has come as a really pleasant surprise today. I really wasn't expecting any more new content/changes this soon, but I was wrong. I'm really excited, and impressed. This game rocks!

Well I hope they use those big tower things from the first few CC screens, and just expand them. That'd be sweet.

Responding to Page 5 thoughts:
a) Initially, the Capitol building would likely be a normal facility. But the intention would be to swap it out with something bigger later on.

b) You'll be able to broadcast warpgate to warpgates on your locked continents also. (Not just to the ones connected to the locked continents.) I should have said that initially. Defense is not penalized.

c) Sub-capitols don't have force domes, so yes...sabotage is still possible there.

d) RookOmega...defending the warpgates will be less valuable. That's true. The trade-off is that the Capitol Building gameflow across the continents is much more dynamic and has more purpose than the current method of continental locks. We're considering the tradeoff to be worthwhile at this point, but discussion of those tradeoffs is why we're here in this forum, so...thoughts?

e)ATFReaper...phantom gen hacking would be fixed/prevented before this concept would go Live.

f) Intimidus...We're considering some "cavern lock" benefits. CC will be getting improvements soon.

Well he is making a case for me to come back to the game... I cant wait.

It feels like the devs may have actually been listening to us all along woah

I'm proud of the devs, lets throw them a party. Except lets make them pay for the whole thing. They make plenty of $!

This is great news--I just hope the capitols are fun to defend as well as attack. Hell, why not make them giant, Tribes "Scarabrae"-esque floating fortresses. Those were awesome.

Know what wold be bitchin? If the capitol building was f'in huge, and required an elevator to efficiently reach the top. That ALONE would open up so many goddamn awesome firefights.

NC Soldier: *gets on elevator, goes to top. Door opens, hail of MCG fire spews into the elevator, commands the doors to close, takes the lift down to a lower level, radio for backup, and prepare for the most bitchin stairwell firefight EVER.*

You know, this is quite simply the reason that I play PlanetSide. With the Devs working their asses off 24/7, they have managed to come up with some truly phenomenal concepts, and this is certainly one of them. Yay!

I can see this now as another big infil nerf(yes, I am biased as to what I think SOE will do). Think about this: the capitol building will be COMPLEATLY invunerable to outside attack untill the sub-capitols are taken. Where will the empire keep all of its moduels then? In the impenitrable fortess, of course.

And what about the facility benifit that this base will provide? If it's an interlink, oposeing infils are compleatly fucked for the whole offenceive. Tech plant? There's no stoping those Reavers and medium tanks from roleing out. IMO, AMP stations, Bio labs, and Dropship centers give negligable benifits, though the Dropship is still very usefull for keeping vehicles fielded.

Think about this, which bases would be the capitol of each continent?

Cyssor: Gunuku almost without question
Forseral: Caer most likely
Esamir: Not sure, but leaning towards Fryer(I don't fight on esamir enough.)

I'm actualy hopeing that this idea goes the way of sanc-strikes.

Black
2003-12-16, 09:48 AM
think it will take at least one month or so to get it ready then they have to test it as well so i think the total time would be 2 or 3 months

Nalar
2003-12-16, 11:11 AM
well they havent even officially put the idea into "in concept" yet, so first it has to go through "in concept" and we can beat it out on the official boards. After that, it has to go to "in development" and they have to actually program this thing. Then it has to go to testing (both QA and public). Im thinking we wont see this until sometime in the spring.

Reichstag, the German word for capitol building.

infinite loop
2003-12-16, 01:13 PM
I think the only way this works is if they add a totally new base to each map to be the capitol, without any facility benefits. If they just make current bases into capitols, it won't really be logical. The current bases can be sub-capitols, but not the capitol itself. That way, the capitol gets benefits of the other bases you have on the link.

Gigabein
2003-12-16, 03:47 PM
I like the floating Scarabrae style base idea. Fighter-escorted galaxy/lodestar drops would become very popular, if not necessary. Throw a ramp onto the base and you could have fights for the drawbridge control room.

Being that all capitals are different depending on the region hopefully they will have different types of capitals. And they should make it where if the enemy captures one of the sub capitals thus bringing the sheild back online, in 2 minutes if you are still inside the sheild area you will be killed by a electrical shock or something.

I wouldn't worry too much about these. The devs do want people to be able to demo bases to stop mod benefits, so I doubt that the capitol would allow you to place them. And they are quick to recognize problems in game play lately and have been good about changing them. :}

The devs have talked of sanc strikes forever, you know they worked them into this one way or another.

They've mentioned sanc strikes a few times and that was quite some time ago. I think this is a far better alternative :}

For all those anticipating this next addition to the game, don't get too excited. This is just an idea that is being thrown around. Such a change in the game play would definitely require a lot of new coding and graphics.

smokejumper also said that the building would probably just be a normal facility when first implemented because patching to update the maps are very large files and they have yet to code a way to make uploading map changes better.

Fly, couldnt they just have us download parts of the buildings over time and then at a certain date release the patch and install code and update all of the maps then? It might take a week or 2 to download but it would be worth it wouldnt it?

You'd think so, I mean, they did it with the GeoWarps.

I'd be willing to bet that planetside is script based, meaning they can add and remove things very easily. Look at the rocks they place over the beer holes. We didn't have to downlaod the entire map for that little change.
