Well, CC didn't fare so well in Game Informer. The game recieved a square of text of about 50 words jammed together with other poor games.
It got a 2. Out of 10.
"Just when you thought the updates and lack of people online couldn't make PlanetSide any worse, SOE drops perhaps its biggest turd in history; Core Combat. Featuring modules that can upgrade bases topside, a paltry list of new weapons and vehicles, and some amazingly boring underground labryinths to fight in, this expansion has hurt the game more than it has helped. Perhaps Sony should have looked at fixing the problems with the original which charges a monthly fee, rather than ripping off its player base with anoth $30 for this pathetic expansion."
Harsh. To put it into perspective, GI gave Grabbed by the Ghoulies for Xbox a 4.

That is cuase they are dumb. CC is a good game. Though I don't use the caverns or the underground places. Oh wait  but it was fun at one time. The failure of CC is disappointing though cuase I was looking forward to it so much and hten when it comes out it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. When I first played it I loved it though but then everyone left the caverns.

CC wasn't worth the money. Hell, it wasn't worth any money as far as I'm concerned, given that we are already paying a monthly fee. I concur with their review and think that, as far as expansions for games go, it's a 2/10, absolutely.

Any review that uses the word 'turd' loses their credibility instantly.
Core Combat was certainly a weak expansion, the result of a poor decision by SOE management, but since it's due for a content addition, it's still premature to give it the equivalent of an F-. I'd save 2/10 for games that don't install out of the retail box, like Anarchy Online once upon a time.

That was pretty rough.

Personaly I put little wieight into a games journalist which uses the word "turd." It's hardly a professional use of language. It's a shame he's right though.
[edit] I should have read the entire thread before replying, rather than post by post

The reviewer was right on the money. That should have been a patch, not an expansion. Look at DAOC - they created whole new zones for housing in just a patch. To me an expansion adds whole new content that changes the entire game. It should also make it 'mandatory' for playeres to get otherwise they will be missing out. Did CC do that? Hell no.
It was a waste of time on SOEs part and money on mine. That was the worst expansion I ever, ever, ever, ever saw.
The only good thing right now is that they made cert points groupable, thereby getting more support stuff going and they also combined servers.

I concur.

Although turd isn't a word I'd consider part of my vocabulary, the fact that the reviewer isn't wrong shouldn't be impacted by his choice of words. So he used a word most of us probably haven't heard since elementary school, doesn't change the fact that CC sucked and he knows it.

Surprise Surprise. While I concur that Game Informer's professional credibility just got flushed down the toilet like a turd (hehe irony), I have to agree.
Core Combat sucks. Nice area, nice idea, little use and little value. More to the point, it's like bottled water - little-needed commodity at an outrageously exhorbitant price.
Three new vehicles. Three new weapons. Some modules that only a handful of people care to go get. Some extra (vacant) scenery. Okay let's break that down. The only thing of value is the Flail. Not the Frail or the Flair. The Flail.
I just spent thirty bucks for an artillery piece that I don't even use. They could have just made that an addition like they did with the Lodestar, the Liberator, and the Skyguard. I didn't need to spend thirty bucks and I want my money back.
To add insult to injury, you don't even NEED core combat as long as you don't desire to use anything. You can see everything anway because there isn't a Core Combat-enabled server and a non-CC-enabled server. You can still see the weapons and vehicles and experience the business-end effects.

I agree with GI on this one, and apparently even the diehard fanbois do too. (Yes, I consider myself a fanboi, speak bad about PS and I chew your carotid arteries out).
I don't see how turd is such a poor choice of word, since shit is so over-used it kinda means more to me. Everything is shit, good and bad, but turd, that describes the giant log that lodges in your toilet after great-uncle Joe is done with it.
