So does this replace continent locks?

Or do you get to lock and dominate a continent too?

For example: is locking/dominating a continent now going to consist of capturing three, four, or five bases instead of the entire continent?

What I'm wondering is if the link from the sub-capitol to the capitol work like the FLBs. In other words, if I were to finish a hack on a sub-capitol would that bring up the dome on the capitol and kill all enemies, or would the sub-cap have to be completely captured.

I think this pretty much does away with the old system. Personallly, if this was to be implemented I would like it to be implemented WITH a new building that is unique to the capitol. Something big that has a dropship pad or something (if linked) not turning an old standard base into a capitol - no fun in that.

Still no idea on my question, although Spork left an ambiguous answer that kinda hinted that YES, there may be a Cont-Lock and also Dominion.

There will still be cont locks.

Zubey...you're correct. Continental links are only stabilized when you get a full LOCK...not just Dominion. Thanks. I'll get that edited.

And to those clamoring for a new base...it's coming! Honest! Just not immediately. The "Capitol" game will go in immediately because it makes for better gameflow, and then we'll add the new expanded buildings later.

Firefly: Yes.
Dominion = Your empire owns the capitol building.

Full Lock = Your empire owns the capitol building AND every other facility on the continent.

That's the part I saw.

That's lame... I'd rather wait longer until they can actually release the new base layout(s?), then get the new system only as some odd new capture procedure.

Tru tat. I picture the capital as a massive domed mage-complex, not just any old base. Imagine dropping on the dome from a Gal, or sniping from 200 ft in the area. Pure goodness :D .

Well new buildings would be cool, but a large time delay for them to put them in I would guess.

If any building has to be transformed into a capitol I think it should be the Dropship centers as they have traditionally been places were massive battles occure, gunuku, for example. Maybe slap some towers around it as sub base structures.

I would like to see a large structure, maybe a Dome or Pyramid as the capitol and the sub capitols as smaller bases, bigger than towers but still not full size bases. maybe 1/4 or 1/2 the size of a regular base.

This would add some interesting elements to the game.

And I am all over sniping from the top of the dome! Downside is same as sniping from a tower, your easier to spot, your location is not nearly as well hidden.

Sci-Fi Helms Deep, please. A good sized city, surrounded with high walls and turrets. Force gates on the wall perimeter. Defenitely give it a tower inside the perimeter of the walls with a commanding view of the sorrounding terrain. Give it one way glass so an attacking force can't tell if they're being surveyed or not.

Defenitely give the unique captiol type the new bunkers. Place them against or outside the base walls, but place teleporters from deep in the city itself, the originate next to the spawn building, and end at the bunkers. One way, please. And IFF lock the doors.

The walls should have plenty of firing positions, with forcefielded firing slots that reduce incomming damage from projectiles. Place some observation / spotter spots along the battlements, too, and slap some one way glass on that as well. Periodic stairwells that lead down from the walls and out into the city would be welcome.

Make the city itself a series of nonconnected buildings seperated by several streets. All external and critical internal doors should be IIF locked. Windows should be big enough to shoot out of, but not big enough to fit a VS MAX through. Connect each building with a small tunnel web under the street. This tunnel should be SUPER tight, refer to the tunnels under the MILES training level for america's army. Also add redundant entrances to the tunnels in small ditches surrounded by the sandbag metal boxes.

Give every building an access hatch on the roof to promote special forces style commando drops. However, IFF lock them.

Let's not make them too impervious, please. Capturing 3 particular bases just to open the dome is gonna be tricky enough, especially once outfits start purchasing and defending specific facilities. It's going to take a massive invading army to be able to capture and then successfully defend 3 bases while whatever troops are left over move in to the capital.

I still want fortresses. Set it so that attackers are only eliminated within the forcefield if all four subcapitals are captured.

I still say that randomizing the continent links is going to ruin the viability of OBO. As it stands now you ould use OBO as anchor points for certain strategic bases on your home conts, thats more or less invaladated by the possibility that your assailable from one or 2 sides locked cont is now suddenly assailable on all three.

Well sort of, but every continent other than Searhus has 4 warpgates-- 1 from a Sanctuary, and 3 from enemy home continents. Searhus just has 3 gates, each leading to a different empire's home continent. This isn't going to change that at all, except for the fact that there are no permanent home continents. SmokeJumper made a post about how what they are hoping for, is empires to just "pick their own" home continents by locking them down, and hopefully staying to defend them for a while.

But a lock stablelizes the warpgate so they don't swap anymore. You grab a base for OBO, better lock the con't to secure it.

How so? The VS suck at attacking, since they specialize in tactical warfare, not dead out assault

These "Capitols" need to be in the Caves so that we all have a reason to go down and fight there.

Oh and:

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO INSTANT ACTION INTO THE CAVES!!
Currently when you instant action all that happens is that you go to the most least populated area possible. As much fun as being in the only friendly held tower on a continant is, Instant action in areas where there is actual battle would be a lot better and for gosh sakes, make people instant action into the caves sometimes!

Frag the caves, let that aborted fetus of an idea die, the last thing I want is something to force me down there.

The capitals should have a direct link to the caves thus making them even more of an objective to get and hopefully bring battles in the caves also.
