I was just wondering what benifits there are from having a high CEP rank. In the FAQ on the PS site, it states that they are more valuable then BEP's but not what you get from them.

I think at one point you get the ability to broadcast messages to a wider range of teammates, and eventually get the ability to use voice chat and stuff

I think you also gain access to special chat channels to help coordinate assaults with other squad leaders and such.

I'm not sure what else becomes available though... maybe the ability to set waypoints?... <insert blank stare here>

You can set WPs yes. There is no voice chat in PS so scratch that. We aren;t sure exactly what happens with ranks though,

The devs have intentionally told us as little as possible about CEPs. :(

the only abilities I know of are setting nav points for you squad and setting hot zones for your faction.

Can you expand on the hotzone thing Lex? I forget what the deal with em was... does your faction get a BEP boost (per kill?) for fighting in them?

And do you also get more voice commands with more CEPs too? Or am I thinking of something else?

Its not going to be a feature in the game, but they will probably be alowing 3d-party voice software such as voicespeak or Roger Wilco

There's going to be a Tribes-style voice command/menu system though :)

"voice command" could be a little misleading.

In Tribes 2 (and I'm assuming in the original as well), you hit a button ('v') to bring up a menu of voice command categories. 'g' for global, 'v' again for quick messages, 'e' for enemy stuff, and so on.

Each of those submenus may make actual noises (along with text chat) or be further submenus.

Example:
vgh global: hello
vgtb global, taunt "Is that the best you can do?"
vvc? "Cease fire!"

stuff like that. I liked it quite a bit more than the number-based menus from other games. And none of the voice binds were in the all-important "WASD" so you could still run-n-gun while all this was going on.

I can't really expand becuse the devs have told us so little about even the nav points and the hot zones.

I would assume that hot zones just mean that when your faction members look on the map they will see that the faction needs help there.

I would also guess that hotzones provide no BEP bonus. But I wouldn't necessarily rule out the existance of a command ability that gives troops under you more exp per kill or base taken.

As others have said, there is not going to be built in voice comms, however I would imagine that one of the Command abilities would be the ability to "shout" to all faction members on the continent/world.

Actually, from what I've read, hotzones do give you a bonus if you fight in them. At least, that's what some of the devs have said.

My guess it will probably be equivalent to being an overlord in Shattered Galaxies, where you can shout to your whole faction and mark places where they ought to go, etc.

Those were elected positions weren't they? It might get a bit hairy down the road when like 500 players with command abilities are all shouting at the same time.

They were indeed elected, I just meant it as an example of what it may be like. Obviously you couldn't shout to every single Vanu or Terran or NC, but something along the lines of the SG abilities seems reasonable.

Maybe an ability something like /who all galaxy cert for your faction for the continant (or maybe global) to make finding a Galaxy pilot or other needed cert.
