Go with a 2.4GHz, they're about the best bang for the buck at the moment. Try to get an 80GB Drive and 512 ram while you're at it. And a 350W power supply if not a 400.

You shouldn't have too terrible a time finding something like this for under a grand if you look around. Hell, I could build it and have it shipped to you for under a grand. Of course, not by Friday. ;)

Probably, it'll depend on your time frame and what you're looking for though. Email me at [email protected]

I just bought a p4 2.4/533, a 420watt stealth power supply, 80gig WD 8mb buffer HD, 512mb PC2700 RAM, and a phatty ASUS p4pe mobo with firewire, serial ata, gigabit lan, internal digital audio and a raid controller. I went with http://googlegear.com and I will buy from them again next time. I always used to use mwave.com, newegg.com, or jcshopper.com and never had a problem with the service, but none of them could beat googlegear's prices. The service was good and one of my other friends bought a similar rig and also received excellent service.

The whole deal cost me about $700, which would leave $300 for cd/dvd drives and a video card. If you can salvage the drives out of your current rig, that leaves enough money for a damn good GPU.
