View Full Version : Forgotten caverns...
No one ever goes down under anymore. Eh? Cavern battles are fun as hell. Now a'days, people only go down there only if they absolutely have to, to get modules and the such. When CC was first released, going down there was fun as hell...seriously, get down there.
Long live the caverns. Wackow!

There's caverns?

I agree the caverns can be fun. Yesterday on Jokarov my NC Platoon went down there and found a VS platoon and some 7 or so TR as well. This was my 1st experience down there with more than 2-3 enemies. It was a blast.
The only bad part was some TR and NC goobers left a Prowler and a Vanguard out in the open. Both got jacked and turned purple... grrrrr... lol
I still don't understand why the cavern entrances need to close up all the time in their rotation.... I wish they would just ditch that idea and leave them open.... more access = more people down there = more fun.
Also IMHO, they just need to call the expansion a loss at this point -I mean whoever was going to buy it already has by now- and make it available to all paying members, just not the free trial guys...

Yeah, cavern battles are fun. I think the biggest reason people don't go down too much is because they're always in rotation. By the time people realize there's an open cavern on the continent they're on, there's usually a great battle taking place topside.

PS: If they ever made Core Combat free for all who have a subscription, they'd best give those of us who payed for it at least two free months.

I just wish they'd drop the price. I've NEVER payed $30 for an expansion. Not even a good one.

Well I can accept the price dropping on it. But I can't describe to you how pissed off I would be if I paid for a product they decided to just give away a couple of months later.
Pissed off.

Yeah, I thought the same thing... but it's a flop... how much value do the cavern systems add? How many good fights did you ever have down there? I won't feel I got my money and more importantly playing times worth until they open the caverns for everyone and provide more incentives to go down there along with easier access...
Some key points:
Inactive geo-warps: bad idea, this assumes everyone is clamering to get down there and limits cavern access. I say just leave them all active 24/7.
Core Combat Expansion purchase required: Here is the bulk of your problem, too many did not buy it... time to open it up to everyone.
No command exp for capturing cavern complex bases: at least offer some command exp if you capture the whole cavern... that's 6 five min hacks... and a lot of ground to cover and maintain control over...

You're not seeing the big picture.
CC is about buying access to uber-weapons.
SOE is waiting to release the next $30 xpac with a "push here for xp" button.

They need to eliminate the multiple rotating caves, and just have one main cave which is always open. Each empire can each have one or more gates to get in.

I just hope the flop of CC will teach them not to release a shoddy POS expansion pack for $30 when it should have been included with your $13/month subscirption. They only released CC as a retail expansion because the marketing guys at SOE are always looking for the short term money, which can be produced with hype instead of quality in the product.

That had absolutely nothing to do with it. The reason CC sucks is because no one ever gets to fight there or use the weapons. It's not the content, its the concepts that are the problem right now. Core Combat totally friken ownz with one caveat: People have to be fighting down there for it to work. Just ask anyone in beta, it was a friken blast

Having all the caverns open all the time, will not help, it will create a larger area. one single cavern might work providing it dosen't get to popular.
Hard to say.

I realy wish they would merge the redout and AT into one facility, give it an SOI, 15 minute Hack time, and EXP for caping. Then we would see the EXP whores down there and have something to fight.

Kerosene I agree with you sir. The multiple caverns are just too confusing. One large cavern would be nice. I'm not sure that they would ever be able to be implement it though. They could call it the Cavern Concentration Initiative.

My take on why CC did so poorly.
The rotation system:
The primary reason people go to and fight on continents, at least IMHO is so you have this feel of progress. WIth CC, you make progress, you controll the cavern and then blam X mins later your kicked out, not cool.
The weapons package sucked. Most of the crap is worthless, the rest of it (at least at start) was stupidly overpowered. Add to that the ammo issues and you just arnt going to see troops packing most of it in their standard loadout.
The weapons package didnt cover all weapons, a 4th weapon for SA, a pistol slot weapon for MA a HA weapon less effective then its counterparts. No new grenades. No new aircraft, only 3 new vehicles, 2 of which are wothless or damn near.

There are too many caves. When they said caverns, I was fully expecting it to be a long tunnel leading down to the core with neutral 'tower-like' stations along the way. Just 1 for each continent, each leading down to the core. (Have to reach the core to switch tunnels)
Close, concentrated fighting through a pure chokehold. Now THAT is what I wanted.
I got a bunch of giant rooms with confusing ziplines and bases that give no XP when you take them. I hate CC.

When i first heard of cc my intrest was struck by the "urban style fighting" promised... now im thinkin underground city structures, if not futuristic housing atleast like those mountain homes those crazy indians lived in out west.
I was really expecting some ww2 building to building sniper war but noooooooooooo. "Urban combat" turned into "lots-of-places-to-fall-off-and-get-lost-combat." So with that, my faith in cc was already shot to hell.
As far as the new weapons go... i never use them. honestly, NEVER! They were that usless. I remember one instance when i was down in the caverns and i was killed by a vanu. so i respawn and they had three vanu waiting there with the new HA weapon. I wasted all of them in record time with my supressor.
The vehicles... well, they're just dumb or people aint figured out how to use them right yet. I'm hoping its the latter. I remember back in the first days of ps when people didnt know how to use the ams effectivly so im hoping for a similar situation with the router.
My solution... put some damn buidling structures in for your "urban combat" and either add or tweak your "adv technology".
Also, add in a "accept or decline message screen" for when a new geo warp opens and if you accept it auto warps your character into the cavern. maybe then a decent number of people would be down there. maybe even make it global messaging so that you get even more people.

they should also 86 the ziplines. i mean, it's not a very efficient means of transport.

I'm still waiting for the 'uban style combat' I was promised. In fact I'm still waiting for some decent gamplay from cc. I wish I didn't jump on the bandwaggon and download it on release date because it's a pile of Donkey Poop.
First things first, you get lost within 10 minutes, it's a complete squad killer because you cannot stay together. Secondly, navigation is poor as you have no idea where you are going and how it relates to topside. Lastly....how many times have I heard experienced br20's saying that they have no idea on whet to do and where to go.

Ever see how many everquest expansions there are? Know how many people have each and everyone of em. And they are $30 each too.

they need to make them stay in one place and let htem e strategic places to capture! 8) then you can save this of the whatever portals to this cavern and hold it for your empire. It would make people want to go to lesser used continents too if they did it right and make the game more fun in general, if they wre just permanent!

I have to say why does every one not like it?
I know I only had it since x-mas so it hasn't worn into me yet, but everything is great. The zip-lines are perfect. The combat is perfet (but alittle confusing, I rather stairs than slopes). Most vehicles are great (the router could have alittle more umf.). The weapons.....well I haven't really played with them yet but I assure you in VR that they are different and entertaining.
I only got a few sugjestiongs for cavern combat. One, you could purchase(sp) all weapons and vehicles inside the caverns and take them out of the caverns, but cannot purchase them at any bases. And get xp for caputing bases, cause yes it is very hard to do within 6 minutes.
Yesterday I had fun though. Even though I was getting pwned by spawn campers, I was able to get out and take cover in one of the buildings above and then snipe up there. I also took a zipline that was directly over a reaver so i got jacked up on that. Then i found a bug and I got pwned when i was submitting it.

What use do the weapons have in Urban combat?
Radiator- With the warren of confusion that is the Core, it doesn't look like someone is going to actually manage to find the spot you radiated.
Short Range Lightning Thingy- Uhh, you'll be dead by the time this kills something?
Long Range Lightning Nades- Thumper, better, nuff said.
Spiker- Wow, it's a....pistol? Who cares? Infils? They're so nerfed to hell it's not funny.
Flail- These are a decent concept but very rare. No one wants to go through the mind-numbing experience of dragging one of those out of the Core.
Switchie- Ummm, a buggy? That sits in one spot? Light Armor+Immobility=You guessed it...
Router- Teleportation. Cool. Why do we need it again?
Nothing is that great. The sole reason I would ever get CC is the Flail. SOLE REASON. I'm sure as hell not paying 30 bucks for one vehicle. I wouldn't pay 30 bucks for CC if every thing was useful. It needs new aircraft, better maps, more weapons, new armors, etc... to be an expansion. Not this insulting "Flail with confetti around it" add-on.

Unless you havent tried the 7 day trail of CC, I have nothing to say to you. And apperently I'm guessing everyone tried it and sadly hates it.
I see them as an advantage as you dont.
CC is fun, but apperently many dont think so.
Would it be ok if the price of the expansion was lowered?

Only if they lowered the price to $5.00. CC simply didn't have enough quality content to make it worthwhile:(.
