What are the game's requirements?
This is not finalized. Current assumption is at 1.0Ghz CPU (more is better), a GeForce2 w/64MB VRAM, 512MB RAM (the RAM requirement may be lowered in the future...more details after further testing). A good sound card wouldn't hurt either. Neither would a broadband connection (although 56K Modems are supported).
(FAQ QUOTE)
Anyone think these specs are rather high? The only thing I can tink of that needs specs like this is PhotoShop 7!
This game better look damn good

Right now I'm on an 850 MHz Athlon, GeForce 2 64mb and 128 MB ram. It barely runs new games aceptably on lower settings (probably because of the lack of RAM). BF1942 is the most closely related game to Planetside in terms of scale and graphics that I own and I can tell you that my framerates there aren't a pretty sight. The above specs sound just about right to run PS on very low settings. To have your screen blaring anything resembling what we've seen from recent screenshots you'll need something more powerful. I thought that the RAM requirement looked a bit odd though.
On a side note the 512 DDR RAM which is part of my system upgrade hasn't arrived and it's holding up the installation of my new P4 2.533 and Radeon 9700 Pro (I just want to install it all at once :P ) :furious: That'll be my Planetside PC.

There's really no excuse for holding on to an old shit computer at this point. I just upgraded my GF2/1GHz system to 1800+ XP and GF4 Ti4200 for $200. Now everything runs like a dream...
The GeForce 2 is about 3 years old now. You just cant justify still having that piece of hardware and expecting to be able to play games these days. THREE YEARS. 1GHz has been out for almost 4.
I'm glad they're actually going with realistic min specs instead of something retardedly low and having it not ever work. BTW, turn off hardware accelerated sound in BF1942 and you should have much better framerates. Turn channels/quality down until you find a good combo.

Hardware accelerated sound is off right now, i really think it's just the lack of RAM that is the main problem. Never mind, I should be able to upgrade completely and have my knackered monitor fixed by early next week. Everything should be perfect then.

Well in my opinion, 1.0 GHz would be expected, and is by all means reasonable for a game like this. In current times 1.0 GHz is about average computer speed. Technology advances, and requires more power that we must provide it. We all want better games, but no one wants the games to have a higher system req :p

Rocket hit the nail right on the head. Game companies should not be trying to hit the low end croud.. It just makes things suck for the high end people when they could afford so much more..
Technology advances, if you choose not to get on the bus you pay :p
btw I am running the exact specs that the FAQ requires, but I will be building a new beast soon :evil laugh:
edit: except i have a GF3

... I'll be upgrading shortly.
Suffice to say that I scrape by the minimum requirements. Of course, we all know that minimum requirements are for scrubs or guys who don't like movies. ;)

1700+ (oc'd more)
gf4 ti4200
512MB DDR
I bench around 11,500 in 3dmark2k1...I guess thats ok.
It really all depends on the engine. Those who have played DAoC know how crappy that engine is. In RvR with tons of people you could easily be running at 1-2 fps with the most badass computer available....cuz their engine sucks. It draws every detail on a guy, even if he is a pixel on your screen. Hopefully the new update will fix it, but its all in effeciency of the code/engine :)
