Does it really suprise you that much? Garfield has turned into a HUGE franchise. Jim Davis owns his own animation studio. They've done cartoons, video games, countless toys. It was only a matter of time before they made a movie, espeically with modern computer graphics.

The old Garfield movies are classic cartoons. My favorite was Garfield In Hawaii, or something similar. I wouldn't dismiss this so easily.
EDIT:
J-Love... great, there goes my lunch.
BUT WAIT! What's this? Bill Murray as the voice? Hmmm, can he beat out (rest in peace) Lorenzo Music, the original Garfield? They sound similar...

Garfield danced. He dances all the time on the fence outside his house.

Yeah he had the tapdance thing with a hat and a cane, I think Odie sometimes helped.
Speaking of which, where the frig is Odie, or did I miss that?

Another thing...why was that house so well-furnished? Jon was supposed to be a deadbeat idiot loser, not some swanky lawyer person...
Altogether, i give it a baka out of 10

Garfield never moved around that much, Jon's house looked like shit but it at least looked like a home, and Odie is not some little weiner dog

It's a movie people, there must be movement. However I do not like the fact that Garfield is that active, never once mentioned food, they didn't even show his bed! But still, would you go to see a movie that had the main character get up every 10 minutes, go get some food, and go back to sleep?

I don't install Quick Time on my PC so I didn't watch the trailer. However I did read the synopsis, and there was mention of a dog but not one named Odie. Garfield was also active- remember the Halloween special where they went trick or treating? That fat cat ran like ten miles to get away from Pirate Ghosts.
Jon is supposed to be a little weener, living in a small house and wearing bell-bottoms. If they can keep it the same with Scooby-Doo, they can do it with Garfield. Garfield with no lasagna or Homer-esque food binges, and no Odie, and Jon living in a swanky house just makes for crappy movies.
Garfield's charm was that he was a fat overeating lasagna-loving cat, who beat up on Odie. Jon's charm was that he dressed like a retarded gay hairdresser from a bad pulp fiction novel, he couldn't get dates, he had a small Yugo-looking car, and he lived in a small house.

And Odie's charm was that he was the innocent but sometimes devilish co-star that completed the trio.
