i have a question.. how do you show pics that arent on websites and stuff.. stuff you made on paint and stuff like that?

If you are talking about showing pics you made to people on the forums or what not, you have to upload it somewhere. There are plenty of free hosting services that will provide you with the web space. Otherwise, you cant display pics online (ie in the forums) unless you have them hosted somewhere.

I don't really see what your confused about. Lycos Tripod has a web ftp and everything....

Type this [img.]<site>/<filename>[/img.], just don't use the "."

I really fail to see the difficulty in getting this to work.
Make sure that the file that you want to use isn't in a different folder.
