What MMO should you guys suggest I spend my money on. I played Planetside right up until just before the release of Core Combat. I quit because it simply got too repetitive. I did enjoy it a lot before that, though. Has it gotten any better since I left? If not, what other MMO would you suggest. I have never really been able to get into the standard issue MMORPG like Everquest or Anarchy Online so I don't really know if there is anything out there I would like. Any suggestions?

i played FFXI, ive played EQ, ive played SWG, ive played PS, out of those 4, planetside wins, for me. hack and slash are too boring, and since i got this video card, ive been rackin up the kills like mad.
Planetside is a lot of fun for me and I've been playing since June. Now with the server merge battles are bigger than ever and it is a lot harder to capture a base.

Just an FYI, do NOT get Horizons, I will not bore you with the problems of it unless you are seriously considering it.
If you are, just send me a PM and I will let you know why. But to summarize it, the game needs another two years before it will be complete.

Were you in the beta?
Yeah, but for a long long time... I was in the first set of beta members, so I got into the focus groups. It was absolutely amazing how nothing we said was ever considered. It was also funny to see as time widdled down how they started pulling things from their FAQ instead of adding them into the game.
One tiny example, the game is designed around three factors, fighting, crafting, and building. One of the big things about building was you were supposed to be able to build a consignment building and hire an NPC to sit around and sell your wares. Well they ran out of time, and when you build a consignment building the normal NPC consigner appears, exactly the same thing as what is in the cities... Everyone pays a 10% fee, (which the "system" takes) except your consigner costed you a tremendous amount, and is in the middle of BFE. Another example is you were supposed to be able to add additional "vault" space to your house, to let you store more stuff. Then you would be able to set permissions on the vault, so guild members could all store stuff in one place. I asked the producer of Horizons every week about it, he guarenteed that was a core function and would be put in. Its not in, no mention of it ever possibly being in.
The game needs another year at a very minimum before I would consider it a complete game. Two for it to compete with anything of the likes of DAoC.

Still think EQ is the best, just finally got bored of it. And personally, I can't stand any game that uses click and move as their movement function. PS reigns supreme! For now.

As I had PS since retail (not beta cause I never got in:mad: ), I still enjoy it like bagels and cheese.:D
But I'm like the only crazy one that still likes PS and still plays, so get FFXI since everyone else likes it.

okay, sure, WoW is more of the same old, but it's more of the same old in warcraft land.

I haven't seen a shred of proof that WoW will be "more of the same". I think the catastrophic, utter failure of SW:G has been a good lesson to more honest development teams.

FFXI looks promising. Still not convinced, though. How hard is it to get into? How time consuming? How receptive?

1. Diablo 2 is not an MMORPG. It has never been an MMORPG. It will never be an MMORPG. It's a relatively small game that you happen to be able to play with some friends online. There is nothing massive about it's multiplayer capability.
2. If you found Planetside boring because of it's repitition you'd absolutely hate DAoC, EQ, FFXI or any other game that has an "autoattack" command. Possibly if you were to play a caster class but even then it gets very repetitive.
3. WoW is not the next coming of Jesus. If you get a woody everytime you think of it please place your hands in a blender and use your cock (or vice versa I guess) to flip it to the "liquidate" setting. It will not be perfect on launch. In fact not only will it be delayed but it will still have bugs at release. However Blizzard, being true to their rep, will squash the bugs in record time. Will it end up a good game? Probably. Is it going to be "teh bestest game evah!!1!!1"? Probably not. What am I going on? What evidence do I have to back these crazy theories up? Blizzard's past track record and inexperience where MMO games are concerned is about all. Which, if I might add, is more to go on than any of the people who touch themselves at night thinking about playing a Orc. ;)

Diablo2 is a fantastic game if you are into character advancement via rare items. Diablo2's strategy also hinges not around being able to take on people one at a time, but being efficient at taking throngs on at a time.
Don't forget that Diablo2 is very old... The graphics look it too. For it's time Diablo2 was an amazing accomplishment, the graphics were fairly good, the amount of diversity in the loot-o-matic system is still unrivaled by any MMRPG, and the sense of achievement is fantastic. You can really get a rush after being pinned in a corner fighting 20 demons at once, with your health yo-yoing crazily, being sustained alive only by your life leeching ability... You know that if you get unlucky and miss too many shots you will fail to leech enough life back and you will die; your enemy is also your only source of life.
I would kill for Diablo3 to come out, still isometric, just fantastic graphics, an improved lootomatic system, and a guarentee against cheaters this time.
"Take heed and bear witness to the truths that lie herein, for they are last legacy of the horadrim. There is a war that rages on even now, beyond the fields that we know - between the utopian kingdoms of the high heavens and the chaotic pits of the burning hells. This war is known as the great conflict, and it has raged and burned longer than any of the stars in the sky. Neither side ever gains sway for long as the forces of light and darness constantly vie for control over all creation."
"When the eternal conflict between the high heavens and the burning hells falls upon mortal soil, it is called the sin war. Angels and demons walk amongst humanity in disguise, fighting in secret, away from the prying eyes of mortals. Some daring, powerful mortals have even allied themselves with either side, and helped to dictate the course of the sin war."
Reading those still give me goosebumps... Blizard Entertainment is truely awesome at making games rope you in. The cinimatics always are the best in the industry, and the story comes out as smooth as silk. You can almost picture the aformentioned text scribed on a stone burried deep in some tomb that the last of a sect of monks locked himself in as his peers were consumed by the war that raged outside.

I strongly reccomend Earth and Beyond. Terribly Underrated, but I love it nonetheless. Enthralling storyline, interesting classes, different damage system, and just overall, a cool experience.

If you have a friend that plays already, you can pick up the basics in no time. The game is so deep, that you are the one who decides how repetitive it gets. (ex: if all you do is xp whore then it will get boring. unless you are a whore. :p ) Once you get into parties and go on missions and such, the game slowly takes priority over all other games. I'm having a blast playing it ATM. I recommend it.

I'm going to check out WoW because SG is planning on having a portal in it. But MMORPG's don't do anything for me and I have never played any of them, to tell the truth.
Having said that, I'd kill to get in the City of Heroes (http://www.cityofheroes.com/) beta and definitely plan on spending some time with that when it hits retail.

Earth and Beyond was cool when I played. The populations have dwindled, and now most of the missions are for high level players, so if you used to have an account and were somewhere around mid-range, it's going to be hard to pick back up.

SW:g IS NOT A FAILURE.... GET IT INTO YOUR FUCKING HEADS!
It's a failure in the sense that it's boring and practically pointless for the vast majority of players. The selling point of the Starwars universe is the Jedi and the Force, and 95% + of the SW:G population will never get to try it. What's left over is SimLife: Mineral Farmer.
FFXI looks promising. Still not convinced, though. How hard is it to get into? How time consuming? How receptive?
FFXI is a beautiful game, but it has a horrid interface... entirely keyboard-based, not even a basic mouse-look. The job system is interesting too. It's possible to get 1 character to max level on all 15 job classes.
It will not be perfect on launch. In fact not only will it be delayed but it will still have bugs at release. However Blizzard, being true to their rep, will squash the bugs in record time. No game in the history of computer games has ever been perfect on launch, so that point is rather moot. I play WC3: TFT and follow the news sites, so I have a good grasp of what's happening with the game. Inexperience doesn't mean incompetence. All Blizzard has done is take the parts that work from MMO's that have been out for a while and throw in Warcraft's amazing stylistic feel.
