30 Day XP Trial Question

Hey,

If I sign up for that 30 day free trial from gamespot, can I download the game from some different mirrors and just use the code that I should get in the email? Or do I have to download from gamespy? If I can use some other mirrors, anyone have some good ones to link me to?

There are no other mirrors. When you sign up on gamespot it will install a tiny p2p app that will download from many sources. It is easily uninstalled after that. No spyware or bloatware stuff common in most other similar systems.

only reason I ask is because the gamespot thing only downloads at like 40kb/sec.. i have a 112kb connection, and usually get it up to at least 80kb/sec. Also, does my trial begin from when I get the email, or when I enter the account code?

I got 300kb, my brothers normal download rate, when I installed the trial for him where FP was stuck at 60kb :sick:

The trial starts when you enter your key.

lmao, so this is gonna take me 80 hours+ to download... oh well, just do it overnights then...

nah, if it downloads at 64K it should take around 6 hours. back when I downloaded it in beta, there was so much traffic it took 24...

I managed to get the file in 3 + 1/2 hours yesterday with 12 sources using the Gamespot software.

I have 1meg connection with NTL, so if you can judge roughly how long extra it would take you if you have slower/faster connection I hope that helps.

Ok I don't know what kinda cup and wire connection you have, but I have cable w/ a network, so my connection isn't nearly as good as it should be. The DL only took 4 hours on mine though, staying at a steady 500/600 kb/s. Even if yours starts slow, like at 40 kb/s it'll pick up, moving from 2 to 12 sources. If it doesn't within an hour, well then start crying.
