looks cool, very intimidating looking, I wish it made a cooler sound when it shot stuff though, that would have made it really futuristic.

 yea.
Kind of reminds me when the OICW came out. I dont think that will get anywhere. doesnt look very accurate and its stilll primarily a standard assault rifle with a nicer body. nothing groundbreaking.

well, ease of use i think is the groundbreaking part.

Now thats a sweet gun. Why the hell they gonna wait till q5 2005 to switch em out? It better in EVERY WAY. Cept it looks kinda plasticy. Not quite as badass.

well, they arnt thinking of how to make a gun look sound or feel like the koolest gun evar, they want a light weight gun that is perfect for the battle , not to be the koolest 1's on the block

You're looking at how far it got. That, my dear friend, is the descendant of the OICW.

I don't think it will be approved. The US Army is already testing the XM29 (a.k.a H&K OICW). This new gun would have to kick major ass to even be on the same field.
The OICW is too advanced. One of my personal principles of design is that 90% of the time something must be evolutionary, but not revolutionary, to suceeed.

yea that gun is amazing, espically with those thermobaric bullets I've heard about.

I'm not saying the XM29 is bad, I'm just saying it's unsuitable as an infantry arm.

the OICW seems more inclined to Special Forces or Navy SEALs than anything else...i think it's too advanced to be a standard infantry weapon..

if anything, i think the XM29 will be issued to a few soldiers per squad, or what not, you know, like a only a few soldiers per squad have a SAW?

No, they said the XM8 is going to replace the M-16/M-4, if they have any sense at all the XM29 is going to be issued to just a few guys a squad like an M249.

It doesnt look as versitle as teh M16, the body looks clunky and unnessecary.

Please explain to me how the M16 is versatile. You put a magazine in (not a fucking clip), you squeeze the trigger. You switch between "semi" and "burst". That's not versatile.
Dharkbayne
2004-01-09, 01:05 PM
Oh, I suck at remembering most gun names, anyhoo, the m16 is nowhere near as versatile as the XM thingies, nade launchers, scopes, ect. It's a transformer, that kills people.
Yea some weapons like an M16 will jam if you get a speck of sand in it.
that was the earliest versions of the M16, where tolerances and metalurgy wasnt quite what it is now. the M16 is a very capable combat wep has been time honored and well proven over time. so much so that its one of the most copied and design licensed weapons ever used by a military force (with the possible exception of the 1911 .45 auto). its sad that stories of the original problems that plagued it still follow it decades later.
as far as this new one, yeah..thats pretty spiffy. I'll have to look into adding one to my collection.

You haven't shot an M16 lately, I take it. I've had M16s jam on me when firing. Maybe not a speck of dirt, but during a hot zone when you've blasted seven thirty-round magazines you don't have time to fuck around and stop the fighting to clean your weapon, so you can unload again.
I maintain my rifle VERY well. It's pristine, and it's lubricated and kept free of dirt, and it works fine sometimes. Other times, I have to do SPORTS and still other times I have to completely pull the magazine and toss the round out. THEN, if your magazine (not a fucking clip) has some dirt in there, it will fuck the weapon up.
And then OTHER times, I can slap a blank adapter on there and fire a dozen full magazines and not have one misfeed, double-feed, jam, or malfunction. And typically, blanks will jam or not fire the most frequently. It's a very wishy-washy weapon, and I think I'll just stick with my Pig or my SAW.
