How come people seem to think that just because posts are made on the bohica board, they are not supposed to be posted here.

I don't look at the bohica board, I have no clue what bohica is, and I would venture to say that most people on these boards do not visit the bohica boards either.

huttah - space flight!

IMO, this is a bad idea. If we set up a perm station on the moon, we will end up ditching the Int'l Nat'l space station, which right now is a great thing bringing nations together working for a common goal.

I say we wait a LONG time before the moon or mars. (The article said bush wanted a moon thing for the anniversary of the wright bro's... that's only 8-10 yrs away)

$500 billion dollars? That would cost every working American $2,000... I sure as hell don't wana pay $2,000 to put a base on the moon.

Take that $500 billion and put it into the National Ignition Facility; lets get fusion power this decade please. The benifits of clean power, and upwards of 1,000 times MORE power then what we have now (ie... cheap power) would change our lives so dramatically that I doubt anyone could fathom what life would be like... Instantly research would shift from combustion/fuel-based transportation to pure electric cars. Imagine going outside on a hot day and not seeing a haze over the downtown area of your city, not hearing the loud rumble of a gas engine, not paying $20 in gas for 300 miles of travel!

What are the benifits to you or I for having a dome on the moon? That is one expensive status symbol, ehh?

While I'm almost ready to agree with you, Squick, you're forgetting about all of the spinoff applications that the developments for such a program would have.

They might turn out to be more substantial than fusion, at least in the short term.

That is one expensive status symbol, ehh?

Yea we gotta build that base on the moon so when the Chinese land on it we can make there accomplishment feel even more insignificant and be like, "hey bitch what took you so long? well now that your hear why don't you crash the night here on our MOON BASE"

its all about being intimidating and one step ahead of everyone else

It all makes sense, this is what we will say to the foreigners to the moon: as told by great prophet squeekeh "Last time i warn you. Step the fuck off my koolaid bitch"

I think this is the first good thing that has come out of his trap in some time :p

Probably a PR stunt tho, NASA still wont get more money

Eh, but they guy got somethin going.....but dunno why it has to be just us? Its man kind, not US.

No, no, squeeky, the russians are our allies...

::eyes shift a little::

I love the idea of a moonbase (Base on the moon, please, no dinky space station please) because later on we could convert it into a drydock for truely colossal ships when we make it to that point. The Mars landing would be nice but I'd prefer that we exploit our current area of space.

Everay
2004-01-09, 04:50 PM
LNS, how do i put it, weve explored it, wanna know what we found? SPACE!

anywho, i say the moon first, and then to mars from there, as were prolly gonna do it.

Neon Apocalypse
2004-01-09, 04:53 PM
when are we gonna get to the farther than our solar system stage?

the human race has to go to different systems or else we'll die out in our system

Everay
2004-01-09, 06:45 PM
hmm, id say, anywhere from 200, to 1000 years from now. unless we dont colonize other moons and planets in our solar system, were gonna run out of resources, and space, real soon.

Neon Apocalypse
2004-01-09, 06:51 PM
yeah the human race needs to start thinking about its own survival, not damn politics and music being downloaded, we need some technological breakthroughs AND FAST!!!

fusion power as a viable engergy source in THIS decade?
sadly, I'm not sure we'll be seeing that in (what remains of) my lifetime.

I like the thought however

Neon Apocalypse

Hamma

engage warp engines

Everay
2004-01-09, 08:39 PM
truth is, theoreticaly, you could make warp engines, truth is though, you wont go fast enough with those. HOWEVER! theoreticaly, well, not theoreticaly, space, as in all space, is curved, and us humans, see it as straight, and gravity is created through that, but its another story, but, since space is curved, you can theoreticaly, go into some alternate dimention, and go though a short line through that curved space.

i know i didnt explain that too well, but yea. all thats left, really, is creating a powersupply that can get us to do that, and that as i said, can be done with a wormhole, thing is, to make a stable large wormhole, to get a ship through, would take about as much energy as our sun makes, if not more.

All thats left for humanity?

Yes. AIDS, cancer, pollution, crime, and war still run rampant over the world. BUT WHO GIVES A DAMN! LETS BUILD US A BIG OLD RED WHITE N' BLUE DOME ON TEH M00N!

Take that 500 billion, and oh, I dunno, get rid of the deficit? Put it towards research in life-saving medicines? There is all SORTS of shit than we can do with 500b before playing space cowboy.

Dubya's been watching the sci-fi channel late at night again.

Everay
2004-01-09, 09:24 PM
i ment, all thats left to build those technologies.

BTW, space will help to solve those problems. IE a good powersupply, someone posted about on the OF, helium-3 i belive it is. no Co2, lil radiation, ect. and zero g enviorments are good for scientfic research. and something like going to the moon, if america includes all the countries, and makes this a global endevor, and not a american endevor, it can, and prolly will, unite the world.

Rayder
2004-01-09, 09:55 PM
How about some anti-matter space cannons?

Everay
2004-01-09, 09:58 PM
possible, but again, youd need more energy than the sun gives out. a anti matter cannons basic principle, id assume, would be launching a anti matter projectile, in order to get anti matter, you have to do one of 2 thing, first, go to the center of the galaxy, and mine it, where its abundant, or second, use particle accelarators to collide them, and you make the anti matter, though, the latter option requres assloads of energy, so much, you cant comprehend it.

and going to the ceneter of the galaxy would take a long time, and even with a anti matter engine it would take 500 years

Bleh, land on the moon, colonize, go to marz, make it livable, colonize, make a fat ass telescope in space and name it jim, steal a martians ride, jump into lightspeed to its homeplanet, teach them how to play PS on the Emerald server.

Done.

TR on emerald don't need anymore newbies, TYVM.

Seriously though, the Intl Space Station shall still be put to use. We'll need a place to refuel and rearm...errr....repair before we invade....errr....colonize the Moon. It'll still be up there for a while. Get used to it.
