Easy.
Get as many 20oz Plastic coke bottles as you can.
Go out to a nice field or something.
Bring a few gallons of water.
Bring a hammer and some gloves. Leather type.
Get a block of dry Ice.
Use hammer, and chisel works best, to break pieces of dry ice, fill the bottom with broken dry ice. Not alot, say, jsut the bottom 5%.
Add water, close the lid tightly, toss it as far from you as you can.
Within 2 min, the bottle will explode.
No chemicals.
No fire.
LOUD BANG, tlaking REALLY REALLY REALLY loud.
DO NOT HOLD BOTTLE AFTER ITS CLOSED. It will take your hand off, and deafen you if you are too close to it.
Otherwise, its a fun, "safe" way to make big bangs.

You don't even need the water if your throwing it.
Get some pippete tubes, put dry ice in them and close em up, put it in a beaker of water (for protection) and you got a smaller version.

Yeah, I used to do that at work all the time at my old job. We'd get steaks packed in dry ice, and I'd grab a 2 liter pack it with dry ice (no water) and cap it and leave it in the bathroom. Any time from 2minutes to 2 hours everyone in the complex would jump out of their seats. Always scared the shit out of me too.

I think you could loose a finger, but you definately wouldn't go deaf, I've had one thrown in a car with me before, and I was fine. Pissed, but fine.

I would buy it at H-E-B but a hunting store might carry some, for packing your kills. Make a few calls or do a web search, its not that heard to get a hold of.
Also. 2 liters, Vs 20oz bottles... 20 oz bottles RULE. MUCH louder, the plastic is thicker so it takes more gas to Pop.
You don't HAVE to use wateer, it just accelerates the process and allows you to use less Ice. You don't use water and its slower, sometimes the plastic will bubble first..
I put those disclaimers in, in case some idiot were to hold one in his hand by his ear. MMMKKAY? I have watched one of those detonating, and you can see the "blast" wave of air condensing its awesome. The two liters spolit too fast.

The water wouldn't do jack. It's the pressure building up from the dry ice subliming that creates the explosion.

Hmmm... So wouldn't a PVC pipe work great if you got caps, and PVC-cemented them on with the dry ice/water mixture in it? If you were to fill the tube 80% full with dry ice I wonder if it could create enough pressure to blow out 1/8th PVC...
If so, I very likely have a new hobby... That should be loud enough to sound like a cannon going off!

Don't put too much in or it won't work as well.

I use pool acid and strips of aluminum foil inside plastic bottles.
The reaction happens much faster - once the foil goes in, you have about 30-60sec to cap it and throw it.

I don't think it would do anything. PVC is pretty damn strong, I doubt it would blow.
The water serves as an accelerant to the dry ice turning back into gas. Like Vic said, if you don't use water, sometime the ice goes right through the bottle.

The acid melts the aluminum, creating gas in the process.
Do NOT use indoors and do not stand anywhere near it. Acid goes spraying in every direction and the cloud of greyish-yellow smoke it creates will turn your lungs into pudding.
Is this all legal  and I know it probably is but where could you do this?

well, like, outside your city? and thats not smart, dry ice and water is fine, because theres no gas that can kill you, but that right there, is just plain stupid

go further out, or do it in a empty street. here in my city, outiside the city, is like a 2 minuet drive, and a 30 min drive to my ranch. 10 min to the local paintball ranch.

Yeah, but the gas has to go somewhere right? If you use PVC cement you can make it 100% air tight. That is why I was wondering if you fill the thing 90% full of dry ice, then fill the rest of the space with a non compressable fluid (like water) then every bit of CO2 has that comes out of the dry ice will have to go somewhere, increasing the pressure.
I am by far not a physics major, but even if sublimation takes a lot of energy to happen, the inside will get super cold and sublimation will slow down, but energy will still get through the PVC.
And if you look at the books you see that heating something like a bar of copper from 0C to 300C will increase the length a very measurable amount; and the force produced by that expansion is absolutely insane, many many millions of PSI I do believe. So I would think the phase change of a substance should create similar forces. That is assuming the pressure to prevent dry ice from sublimating is not less then what it would take to burst a PVC pipe, but I would have no clue what either of those numbers are.
Now I'm gona have to find some dry ice just to see if I can make myself go deaf from 100 yards away...
Everay

well, the question is, how strong is that cement? because it may be able to keep gas at a normal PSI inside and out, but i dont think it would still hold the lid on if too much pressure was forced on it. so my guess is that the lid will go flying off.

It's legal as long as you don't use it for vandalisim.
Use anywhere isolated. The middle of an empty field, in the woods, ect.
It's a lot safer than bottlerockets and firecrackers.

Good point, not sure... I was assuming it is the same as wood glue, where the bond is actually stronger then the wood itself.
I know I PVC glued a cap onto a tube once and later had to take it off, and I was absolutely unable to get it off even pounding on a small metal pipe I had on the inside of the cap, I ended up having to just cut the tube and buy another cap..

I have never done this, *wink wink nudge nudge* because its vandalism, and simple assault. I whould never do anything like that oh no. Anyway, you will need.
Dry Ice
Paint cans partialy full or completely full.
Either use the pain cans with the plastic lid or the metal lid lightly pressed down. Go to the person who has offended you recently, plop the can down on the doorstep, pop the ice in close the lid, ring the bell and run like hell. Tape results with telephoto lens.

I did this once....actually I did it this past Halloween. At my friends house, their neighbor is sueing them because they got a fence that is like 2 feet into their property. So after they got home and found their door pissed on (lol you could hear them scream), we threw whole bunch of dry ice filled bottles by their rooms and laff our asses off.
And we had a SHITLOAD of dry ice. Since it was halloween most party stores would carry them so you could use them with the fog machines, we bought like 20 but only used like 7 of em.
damnit i need ice.

Because generaly when a person might set this up they'd be as upset at a person as at the house, plus it helps get paint into the foyer!

with the pvc you could use a meterial that will slowly be corroded by the ice and put water on one side and ice on the other. If you use a thing with an opening in one end you could just seal up the one end and try to make the other end blow up first, like screwing it and clamping it.
