I can't go to the OF during work hours, could you in the future post the initial post so I can have an idea of what the rest of the thread is talking about... I'm sure I'm not alone.

Thanks

Many players have been reporting unusual lag over the past several weeks, Sporkfire commented on this issue today on the Official Site:

I had actually replied to this previously, but here is the latest status: We checked with Network Operations, and there has been no maintenance that would cause the issue. So we know that's fine. Now, we have our Server Programmers going through code, trying to determine if something got passed along with the last patch (which it seems was when the reports started coming in). We'll keep you posted and continue working until the issue is resolved.

thats the news article...

the first post in the planetside discussion is as follows, spork's response is word for word however

It is all over the boards and the in-game chat. The game choking lag that resulted from the recent Holiday series of patches and/or some other unseen factor.
Are the developers and supervisors aware of how severe the problems are at times and what is the status of any fix.

What is the official comment from SOE and its representatives?

It is generally accepted that the level of network performance associated with PlanetSide has been on a constant decline since mid December and in recent days has reached a boiling point.

The Symptoms include but are not limited to
> 4+ seconds of lag at equipment terminals for buying items and favorites

> 4+ seconds of lag while enabling and disabling implants which have had their appropriate warm-up time and show as active

> 4+ seconds of lag while reloading and changing weapons

> Doors which fail to open

> Doors which appear to be unhackable

> Sudden deaths from vehicles while deep inside buildings having not seen a vehicle of the type which killed the player for upward of 2 minutes.

> 30+ seconds of lag in the kill message window as well as chat.

These factors as well as some I am sure I neglected to post are symptoms of a failing network supporting this game. A reasonable explanation is expected and a fix is demanded. It is the opinion of this player that this choking lag will cause more players to cancel or non-renew their subscriptions than any other bug to date.

Hundreds of players upgraded their machines in order to stabilize PlanetSide and the current gameplay is the same as it was before these people upgraded.

Rumors of budget cuts and bandwith slashes are dancing around these and other forums and the lack of comment on this matter is calling into question SOE's dedication to the game and its servers.

This must not be allowed to stand.

Please inform us of your status in regards to this issue.

Thank you.

There has defintely been a noticable increase for me in the last cpl weeks. My system has always been hoss enough to handle the worst of zergs and chug right on with very little lag. And if anything my net connection has only gotten better the last few wks bc Comcast upping bandwidth to 3megs and its a fairly noticable improvement for me. Maybe some of the servers got a cold.

Yay, they're admitting there is a problem finally! I upgraded my video card over the holidays and have been getting worse performance ever since. Now I know not to send this mailbomb to ATI.

lol, typical helpdesk answer. "its not our software, it must be your system."

2 months later, oh by the way here is a patch for these 101 problems with our software. Please update your licence to download CLICK HERE($27.99)

Seriously JoeL, I really like this game but if this lag isnt fixed sharpish I'll be canceling my account. I bought another 512MB of PC2700 DDR, and had my connection looked at, its not me, and I've wasted 50+

THE_TeraHertz, actually since we here in tech cannot change any coding and the coding is being worked on. We just want to offer help to make playing a bit more bareable than before to those who want it. If you do not wish to troubleshoot your issue then please do not post on this forum if you do, then we would be glad to help.

I didn't really know how to contuniue after that. "Ok joel, so, your employer's code blows, so... lets trouble shoot shall we."

:p
I thought it reply was pretty funny. It was kind of like "fuck off I cant do anything" but in an amazingly nice way lol.

Doesn't hurt to be polite. ^_^
