Heres the conversation when i asked about it in IRC. Wanted to bring it here and ask what you think! I thought it was a good idea but then agian it was my idea... ^^

<Aital> Maybe they should make it harder to get more powerful weapons, so you have to work to get more powerful weapons and vehicles and have to work for those specialties.
<Aital> like you can get this cert starting from this lv with the current cert costs 8)
<Aital> You would have to get a certain lv to get certain vehicles but stil have cert costs so you cant get them all.
<Aital> that could balance the game and keep the abuse to a minimum and make it work more like a real army
<Aital> and increase xp per lv and make CR more meaningfull.
<Aital> see you start out as infintry by nature then at lv two you get access to iniltrator and lv 3 or 4 something else.Edit: (something like Medic or Engineering)
<Thorex> Yeah but they want to let a BR1 have the same kill advantage as a br20
<Aital> yea but you would have access to weapons basicaly no matter what
<Aital> weapons certs would be open nomatter what
<Thorex> What if a br1 noob wants to be an infiltrator?
<Aital> all "infintry" stuff would be open at al times
<Aital> but infiltrator would open at lv two for instance
<Aital> because you can get to it form traing right?
<Thorex> yeah
<Aital> lv 15 would be hightest lv if not lv 10 or 12
<Aital> then after that is just expanding certs just like normal
<Aital> then you would have something to do to acheive specialty etc
<Aital> and feel more special
<Aital> :brow:
<Thorex> What if a br8 wants to drive a tank that's at br10 prerequisite though?
<Aital> lower tanks would take less lv req while heavy tank would take max or near lv req
<Aital> they would ahve to mod the certs a little
<Aital> or recert by heavy and medium

This would go really good with Thorexs idea for Bounty hunting for outfits points or whatever. I think it would make it alot more meaningfull acutaly like almost everything in the game. All the Smaller specialties would be accessable at lover lvs, or atleast there starting point, Like the infiltrator suit. Then the otehr things that go with it could be a lv or two ahead depending on the cert. The cert cost would still be used. You would just have to wait for a certain lv till you can spend them on it, But you would always have Infantry things like weapons types and Agile and rexo open to get at any time, Unless you push maybe RExo to like lv 5 or 6 base to make it more meaningfull to have gotten as well. LIke i said you would also have longer Experience runs between LVs to make it have some purpouse.

It would allow basic things like infiltrator at low lvs to start people out. Other things like Air would start out at slightly higher lvs to get the basic assault plain like the mosquito and a bit higher for reaver. This would obviously give the devs more incentive to balance them more but it would make them all morefun and make Airforces more meaningfull. Galaxy would be like lv7 lode would be like lv5, these would be the none offensive air group. the Mosquito would be lv 6 and Reaver would be lv 11, Assualt path as D&D puts it iwht magic, Kinda like a career choice. MAybe the reaver would be lower. And the Liberator would be About lv8 right above the light air group and in hte middle of the Assault ones. the higher cost empesizing the value or power of the group persay. Dont let teh D&D reference dismay you its just what i could think of as an expample ofsomething kinda like it in one way. They would not require one another to uget the "next" cert, Thats what the higher lv is for.

Medium tanks would be like like lv8 buggies like lv6 Heavy tanks lv10/ and the Flail lv11.
This would emphasize ther varying powers.

The atvs would be somewhere below buggies but above infiltrator. So you may have ot adjust buggies. this is all kindof lke how a real army making you work your way up in yoru carreer to a higher vehicle in real life. It would slow down the game play and emphasize more on each characters contribution to the group an put more value to people who go for air force or higher tanks while not necassarilly stoping you from making killer Inantry to kill. This i think would also spread out the use of weapons to get a more balanced use of vehicles in the game. Though you would have to work to get higher vehicle groups which i compare to building up a modern army from a 50 year old one.

I hope i havent overexplained. The lvs may have to be adjusted. You may also want make lv requirment for CR lvs. But i wouldnt put Cr5 at like lv 20

And i just saw a thread about reducing the recrert timer to 12 hours.(I didnt read it) This would also allow this and stop abuse or quick chaning between everything but what there lv allows and allow quicker cert changes. Basically stoping what i imagine could be many problems from lover lv characters but allowing higher lvs to have the freedom of differing cert options etc.

This would make the lv from about 1-11 the kind of "troop" lvs and then lets say with lv8(this is just a model) as the REq for CR1, lv 8 - 20 commander lvs like taking a permanent officer possition in the military. Then id imagine lv 11 as CR 2 and lv 14 the req for CR 3 LV 17 the REq for CR4 and Lv 20 in this case the req for CR 5( though you could do lv 19 so you can get lv 20 and CR5 at the same time.)

This actual example may be a way to get higher bR CR lvs in the game, If you think about it. Add One more CR and a few BRS, Lets say lv23 and lv CR6( At which point you could make LV 20 the req for CR5 adn LV 22 The req for CR6) This would allow room for some more vehicles, which could be fitted in the lower lv requirments for vehicles etc by upping the "troop" lvs to 1-12or13 with nothing to stop you from adding a new set of weapons and whatever esle you want. You would have to add more stuff though with this when you add more BR CR, because, if you dont you have to much of the available Certs at one time. I would use it to add bR and CR at this point only when you have more vehicles, etc to add.

Its late, sorry if i dont make sense. I really hope i do though because i think this would be very good for hte game.

though i noticed in this version interstingly Cr1 is the same lv as light tanks. 8) This could be the new weapon of the Commanding class like Patton! This whole design is based on having larger armies to have to attack, or atleast larger pop caps on each continent, though i think it could work with lower pop cap and people per side untill maybe one day there is a much larger game to use this with.

You would ahve to fit maxes in ther too. Lets say around lv 5/6/7 respectively in whatever order you the devs choose. Or some set of three lvs like that. Not really sure exactly what lv they should be but it should be whatever gives them the most character. Or is the most fun. It shouldnt be to near lv 11 though or really low IMO. so maybe LVs 5/7/9 or 5/7/8 if thats fesible.

What do people think?

THe only thing this would literally do is add a lv requirment to open up certain certs. It wouldnt change cert cost unless they felt like out of normal balancing, it wouldnt change the requirments for MA for other weapons, or any system of record keeping in the game. They would be exactly like they are now, you just wouldnt develope as a character slower and have to work for a type of character through lv 11.

Ive come up with this some more specific things to work with it:

LV 0 that cost about 500 to get to lv one, or whatever is reasonable, not much though. I have to check hte current EXp lvs. Enough though to get form training and still get lv 2, or to struggle it out with basic weapons.

ive come up with these lv requirments:

Standard ass. Lv0
Medium ass. LV1
Heavy ass. LV1
Special Ass Lv 1
Sniping LV1
Anti vehicle LV1

Standard Armor Lv0
Agile Armor LV 1
RExo LV5 or whatever i meantioned before
Infiltrator suit LV 2
Maxes LVs 5/7/8 i dont know what order
Uni-max LV 8

Medic LV 3
ADV. Medic LV 4
Hacking LV 5
ADV. Hacking LV6
Engineering Lv7
Combat Eng. LV 8

Then the vehicles will be mostly what i mentioned before. But ATV(except Switchblade) at like lv 3. I think the Ancient tech should be slightly higher lv. I was thinking the WEapons at LV4 And the Switchblade at lv 4. The Flail as mentioned before at lv 11.

Ancient tech Weapons LV4
Router LV4
Switchblade LV4 ONe lv above the rest of the ATVs
Flail lv 11 because it goes with by the tank lvs.

Have full vehicle set in a few minutes.... Is there a current Exp/LV list.

LV0-Standard ass.,Standard Armor, Standard Item
LV1-Medium ass.,Heavy ass., Special ass., Sniper,Agile Armor
LV2-Infiltratorsuit
LV3-Medic, ATV,
LV4-Adv. Medic, Ancient Tech weapons(spiker, radiator, maelstrom), AT Switchblade.
LV5-Hacking, Lodestar
LV6-Adv. Hacking, Rexo, Mosquito, AMS
LV7-Engineering, Galaxy
LV8-CR1, Comb. Eng., LIght tanks, Liberator,
LV9-Reaver,
LV10- Heavy tanks
LV11-CR2, Flail
LV12-
LV13-
LV14-CR3
LV15-
LV16-
LV17-CR4
LV18-
LV19-CR5
LV20-
LV21-CR6
LV22-
LV23-

They could add a way to have the Ancient techs in the same certs as not but not have you be able to get them from a weapons terminal till the right lv. I would only recert heavy and light tanks seperately. Give the reaver its own like the mosquito and then have the Air cavalry for use at higher lvs. Stuff like that. :brow: So hopefully minimal rearanging.

Basically you wouldnt change the certs to much or the cost, you would use another thing in the game to dertermint when a weapon or vehicle is availabe to you from a terminal. They would just ahve to add a little bit of simple programming allowing you to get it or not form the terminal and to where it says wheter you can use weapons like how certs stop you form using weapons.

Ill finish the complete set of lists and post them for one last opinion. And maybe a new set of experience per lv. I need the current list of Exp per lv though.

Edit: IN other words some Certs can be obtained but ther vehicles cant be use til a certain lv is reached, Some certs can be redone so that you only get the full cert at one time. So they can have Ground support available at the lv the router is available but no9t alow you to get an AMS till a higher lv but not have it cost anything when you get to that lv, or seperate it into to a 1 cert AMS and a 1cert router that can be obtained at different lvs. But the light common pool tanks would be one group. The heavey Empire specific ones would be one Cert etc. Edit: ok im not thinking, for now the tanks would be as they are now(one cert at lv8) but the flail wouldnt be available till lv 11. It could be changed later to what i just said with the tanks if they add more tanks later.

This would also add more purpose to the Sunderer/Deliverer Combo. You jsut make one available at a lower lv and another at a higher lv. ;)

YOu can also, withough changing anything ive said, make each empire specific vehicle available at different lvs per empire to make each one Unique. I dont think it will be much use though with this setup.

As i said before these are just when they will becom available, all cost are the same. In the cert description, the name of the cert and - lv* listed first is the lv that cert is available. Nothing changes in the game but an added lv requirment for some things up till lv 11. After that its play as normal. Though most character designs have all there certs at a much lower lv. Basically only tank, reavers, and the flail are high lv, with two of the cert combo for air vehicles at high lv. This adds more flexibility for Air vehicles and gets the number of there certs more near the same number as the other categories. This would Hopefully be based around a lower recert time, like 12 hours.

If you have a cert but one of its vehicles/weapons are of a higher lv, you can use the stuff you meet the lv requirments for and will get the others automatically at the lv listed for that specific vehicles/weapon. It wil not cost anything because you already paid for the cert.

And all the CR* are the lv requirments for CR ranks. Its optional. Though you may want to Keep lv8 as teh req for Any CR.

Does anyone get it? I wonder what sporks opinion is, or one of hte devs. Im guessing they have considered this in the past. I think i heard something like this once.

This idea sucks. You should not have to level to become competitive with other players. That defeats the entire purpose of a war and turns it into a game of who has the bigger gun.

Jagd

It's just not an RPG, even if it borrows a few ideas from that genre. Needing a higher level to dominate may be all fine and dandy if you are rolling a fricking die to get a random number to see who lands a hit, but I prefer getting my kills because I was smart enough to use tactics and cover or was just plain faster and more accurate than the other guy.

Did you understand the implications of it. It does not restrict it much more than needing lvs does now to have certs, by design(take into acount the amount of certs at each lv and look what the difference is). The only thing it does is make you spend a little more time as a grunt before you get your tank or plane, and in the meantime use some of the smaller stuff. You just get more experience with the weapons you use as support for a lv, or few lvs, before you get the other thing. And it spreads out the use of weaker things like atv and deliverers in lower lvs so they will be used in a more evenly with the other vehicles. And with the 12 hour or quicker(quicker preferably thinking about it) cert change time you can switch between things faster as you lv. Its not supposed to be the lv thing on its own that is important either, its also a means to allow other htings in the game more easily, and like i said even gameplay so that you are using the other vehicles at lower lvs atleast for a moment, making a continuous amount of them from lower lv characters as they rank. Hence why it only goes up to a certain lv. I was hoping it would instill a little patience(slow down gameplay and bring out more strategy too) in players in general and increase enjoyment of the game. Not to mention give a slight structure to lving without stoping you form getting anything for long. Do you see where im coming with this. Does it take that long to lv at those ranks anyway. By the way i scrapped the higher exp, FYI, as a part of it. And the CR thing can work just as good with only having one requirment at lv 8, or you can have no req. at all, though it helps a little overall to have CR not be available till lv 8 or so.)

And does anyone have something thats actually constructive to add to the conversation?

Imagine if it were implicated what it would be like.
