The most I can tell you about X2 is that it is like a combination of EV Nova, and Freelancer on crack. Nearly everything you ever wanted to do in a space game, in one incredibly beautiful bumpmapped package! No time for more words! I'm off to play!

yea, i heard about it, but i wanna know more info. im interested in buyin it, but, like, how is combat? Tie Fighter like? and, i heard about issues from lag when there are alot of other crafts around, they say from how the game takes so much from the CPU for the AI. do you experiance that?

I myself have not experienced very much combat, but the battle I did in the simulation mission ran like a dream for me. I'm using a radon 9500, Athlon XP 1700+ @ 1.467 GHZ, with 768 mb of ram. The combat is pretty cool, you can even use a joystick if you want, (I choose not to).

Saw it in the store, was apprehensive. I have an EB giftcard, will probably pick it up along with Call of Duty if I go this comming week. If not, I'll grab it when I pick up Starcraft: Ghost next month..

Note to self: Don't bother with combat in this game unless you have a joystick.

I just got it and I find that the flight model is most definately meant for somebody who is using a joystick. If I didn't have this giant mousepad, combat would be almost impossible. It's pretty hard as it is because you can not roll the ship witht he mouse, the mouse only controls yaw and pitch, which is gay. And I can't find anyway to strafe either.

Seems like a huge game, in its scope anyway. The learning curve is pretty steep though. It's a pretty complex simulation.

How the fuck do I make this thing work, you know, let me play? I press escape and it quits.

And is it really any good for a joystick commoner?

i wanna know if you can excel through the game while not actually fighting..cuz that's all i really want in a space sim :/ just mining and trading etc.

You can do alot of mining and trading to excel if you really want to. You will always end up in combat if you do the main story, but if you have done lots of miining and trading, chances are that you have enough money to buy extra ships to do the fighting for you.

Hes complaining about not the game needing alot of space to move the mouse. Its called being practical. And there are good ones out there. You just dont buy the 20 dollar one and expect it to be this great peice of technology. And not all of them are infrared. Im prety sure there are some with the same technology as traditional mice. IE rollers.

1337, you are not too 1337 now are you? a rolling demo, isnt something to be played, but rather, watched, and you get to see how the game would preform on your system, though, thie demo doesnt include the AI strain on the CPU, so its a lil misguiding.

No.
Anyway, I like kittens. I got the game, it's good, the controls are a little odd though.

It does appear that they look very similair. Take a look at this poster.

Ok after playing for a couple days now, I've come to these conclusions.

1. This game is SLOOOOWWWW paced. If you want constant action don't bother with this game. I like sim games, and had fun with civIII, pretty much every "Sim" game ever made by Maxis, and quite a few other slow paced games. This is by far one of the slowest moving games I've ever seen.

2. It looks awsome. If you want some eye candy, this game is good. I don't know if I'd buy it just to look at it, but maybe you have more money than me.

3. The game is HUGE. There are over 100 sectors in the game. Each sector being anywhere from 50 - 100km across.

4. There is A LOT to do. You can buy any number of any kind of ship (assuming you've got the money, which can take a long time to get). You can equip them with a vast array of different types of equipment, from cheap missles to ore minning equipment. You can build a trading vessel fleet and run cargo back and forth between differnt sectors and space stations. You can even create your own space station factories and sell the goods they produce. You could be a pirate and go around capturing, looting, or destroying everything in your path. You could take on any number of missions provided by the NPCs in the game. Missions ranging from destroying their enemies to acting as a space taxi. If you've got the time and patients, this could be a very deep game.

5. If you wan't to be any good at combat you need a joystick. The ship will not rotate unless your mouse is moving, and this means you'll have to pick up the mouse and start moving it again in order to make 360 degree rotations. A joystick would solve this problem.

Conclusion. The game is very open ended, allowing you to do just about anything you want at any time you want. My only problem with it is that getting good ships or purchasing space stations takes A LOT of money, and it takes A LONG time to earn that money unless you're capturing and selling ships and their cargo. The problem is that the ship you start out with is a shitty little scout ship that couldn't capture a butterfly.

Anyhow, if you need a game to kill lots of time, this one will do it. If on the other hand, you are more of an FPS fan than a RPG or Simulation fan, this one is probably not for you.

I found that it was easiest to control myself in combat using the mouse, but changing the mouse so that it turned the ship, instead of rotating it. I just used the "W", and "Q" keys for that. Also, if you are using a fighter (M3, M4, or M6) you can set it to laser auto-aim, so that you dont need to aim directly at the little circle to hit them, it will just lock on and do it your lasers will go for it if it is within the conter of your HUD.

I want this game! Does it have a lot of freedom betweem missions or are you kinda controled by time or npcs. What controls the gameplay if anything? Is there a free'er form of play or and online version that you can join other people in a bigger universe or any plans for it to expand to such.

Apparently lots of people dump the story after the second mission because they get a really good freighter. After the third mission it sends the Khaak guys into the systems and they start destroying your stuff.
