Greetings all,
I have been reluctant to get PlanetSide due to the first time I tried it there was nobody in the game playing and I had almost no idea what to do. Now that I have a good understanding of the basics, I have decided to go full swing with the game. I also wanted to find a more valuable forum rather than the official forums as there's more whining there than actual helping from other players. This place seems much more adequate to suit my needs for the game.
I have read the site over a few times trying to get some insights on what it takes to become great in the game, but I haven't been able to find my "nitch" in the game. I have been sticking with infantry for the time being and trying to latch onto a squad whenever the opportunity arises, but I'm not sure what effective combinations are better than others.
I suppose everything is person preference when it comes down to what your character is equipped with and how to handle most situation. The only aspect in the game that gets me down the most is MAX units. They are so hard to take down! How many bullets can one take? Sheesh!
Well, I just wanted to make my presence known and thank you all for reading. I play on Markov as Faardark in the unified Terran Republic. I think the only reason I chose that empire was because of StarCraft and I loved the Terran. :)
Sincerely,
Morrik / Faardark

Get Spec Assault at your earliest convenience. Grab a Decimator. 2 Decimator shots = dead Max unit

New meat here as well! Your right though this is the best forum I was able to find to find helpfull knowladge on the game.
You try any vehicles yet? I am an avid FPS player but the ground combat just wasn't doing it for me. I found the fun in flying a Reaver and have logged hours of flight time since!

Hello,
I will have to remember that since I'm about to obtain Battle Rank 6. It has taken me a few nights of scrounging on stranded players out and about not knowing what's going on to get some experience. I then did some defending, but a force larger than I have ever seen of New Conglomerate just obliterated our defenses and took the base with ease. But, I will make sure to try the Special Assault. I like those plasma grenades since their area effect is quite large.
Thank you.

The Rocklet Rifle is not a bad piece of weaponry as I'm finding out :D

No problem.
A great way to get experience, especially early on, is to wait in sanctuary to see where the most TR forces are heading. You can pull up your map and see the populations on the continents. If a continent says it's pop locked or going up in population, it's a good chance the TR 'Zerg' is there. Squad up with anyone going there. Follow the SL orders, unless they're completely insane, and go to work on gaining BEP.
Or, do some research into a competent outfit on Markov that has Teamspeak. It's a great voice comm client that's completely free. Much better than typing out what you're going to do and then get shot at.

Morrik, have you tried out all the weapons, MAX armors, support tools, and vehicles in the VR simulator yet? You can get up to BR4 from just trying out things your character hasn't seen before. As for your character's Cert makeup, I'd suggest trying out getting the Anti-Infantry MAX Cert (Which gives you the Pounder MAX) or the Anti-Vehicle MAX Cert (Which gives you the Dual-Cycler MAX. And while the DC is technically AV, it works very well against troops also). Along with those, grab the Reinforced Exosuit and Medium Assault Certs. These Certs alone will give you the capability to become either an incredibly powerful armored suit or a mobile infantry-man with access to a good range of weaponry. If you do take this, I would suggest using the Cycler and Sweeper as your rifle weapons while in your ReXo, the Cycler for medium range and the Sweeper for close up.
Just my 2 cents-TheN00b

Team up with a good outfit RIGHT NOW! That is the easiest way to get squadmates, and squadmates = Exp = BR
Work on your CR at earliest covenience, all my guys have at least CR1, which is a good help if I ever get truely bored with stuff, or there seems to be a lack of squadleaders around.
Like Sentrosi said, get Teamspeak. It will greatly enhance your enjoyment of the game, especially if you join a funlovin'/organized outfit.
I would suggest making several characters, maybe not at first, but definatly soon. It can get very boring and aggrevating if you happen to log on to the Markov server and get yer arse severly kicked, constantly. And make it a different Empire, too. That will allow you to experiance what every empire can give you.

Greetings,
I am going to try this when I get the opportunity. I like the fact of taking on Infantry, but it usually seems that everybody and their mother's have vehicles and roll up with tanks and whatnot. I do like to defend though. Defending is something that I have been doing with FPS games for a long time and wish to continue the feat. I'm not a great attack, but can be one when the opportunity arises.
Thank you for all the suggestions though. I feel like a lost little puppy in the big city for the first time. Everytime I see a huge wave of red dots coming at me, all I know is to start firing and hope you hit something besides the teammates!
I have found that everybody is pretty considerate when it comes to Team Killing. I have been TK'ed over ten times now and everytime the person /tells me saying sorry. I like that. The game has some really mannered and respectful people.
Thanks again.

Hey welcome. Actual best way to play game early on is to go solo, or get in a squad with maybe 3 people. It will help you get good at killing and exp per kill will increse dramatically helping you level up much faster. But if you like being in large squads you can just keep going at it that way, if everyone in the squad is good at killing you should level at a decent pace if not o well, it's about how you play the game not where you end up in the end.

I like to go into a squad where the squad leader gives the orders and then everybody follows them. I have a lot of trouble trying to be a squad leader myself since it's hard to type and play the game at once. I will probably look into getting some kind of voice communication software so that my orders are more effective, however. I don't think my experience in the game is enough to effectively command around a squad of players who are dependant on me to make the decisions. Oh well, it would really be fun to try it out though when my experience in the game becomes much more expanded.
Just a note, I have dropped my Heavy Weapons Certification and got the Uni-MAX certification. I am very effective with the Pounder Configuration when attacking and even better with the Anti-Vechcle MAX when defending due to the amount of bullets that can be shot out at once. I also like the fact that MAX units on the TR can "mount" themselves or deploy. Everything becomes much more accurate and people don't like that too much... especially the Vanu that were trying to take out a tower last night. It was great fun. There was another MAX unit next to me and we took out almost everybody that came up. Unfortunately, the Vanu got smart and started shooting the Decimators at us. Simple solution was to just un-deploy and become mobile. :) I think I'll stick with the MAX units for now and defense. I have great fun with defense.
Thanks for the welcomes again and the advice. I look forward to becoming more of a regular on these forums.

Seriously join an outfit, also go to teamspeak.org and download the client, and maybe the server, that way you can speak to others. Also, If you want to be a GOOD SL at first, you need to make that your goal, not the kills. Sit back and direct, maybe pick up a transport cert. Good commanders don't even try to direct while they are in the fight, they either fight, or command, Definatly not both.

A reminder about ammo type too - normal ammo is pretty much ineffective against vehicles turrets and max's - always try to use AP (armor piercing (gold) ) ammo - still not great but does chew into them more than standard ammo.
and welcome aboard! :D
