Today I came to the realistaion of what I would like to do as a future career. I don't think many people know they want to be a politician at the age of 15. Really I haveg a passion for debate, and socio-econim issues. Although I am still keeping my options open (I originally wanted to be a game designer, make models, or do coding, or something like that), but now I have realised, I'm just not good enough, compared to all the others my age who can do more than I can, and are better at it. Does anybody think this is a good course of action to persue? Maybe I can make games later in my life, if my political career slumps. But I want to make a difference, I want to have a say that matters in what happens in our world today, I want to share my ideas with the world. Am I reaching too high? Is there a limit as how high too high is? I know that I will have media, and powerful figures against me, but I will try my damned hardest anyways. Hopefully you can be seeing my name on a ballot somewhere within the next 5-10 years

If you really want to accomplish something politics is the worst place to go, people go into politics to further there own ambitions and stroke there ego, not to do anything worthwhile.

In politics? Don't make me come over there and slap you upside the head with a panhandle.

just remeber, if you can't answer a question very well say "I support all that is good, and despise all that is evil" since thats all politicians pretty much say when asked a question you should be fine!

For the people, by the people.
Just remember you work for them, you WILL be wooed by special interestes and shady people, keep your word to the people you were elected by and you will be great.
I saw this quote in Newsweek once: "The is no democracy with professional politicians."

What makes you think you can't get better and be a game designer, etc etc? You can do anything if you put your mind to it. And no, I'm not just saying that. It's actually true.

Just remember the true meaning of politics. Let's break down the word for those who don't already know. See, originally it was spelled polytics. This is why most people don't know the true meaning. If we break down the word into its parts, the real meaning is shown.
"poly", the latin root for meaning many. "tics" nearly brainless blood sucking parasites.
Seriously though, if you want to be a polititian please don't be a stupid one. Use common sense and the people's wishes to make decisions. Don't be influenced by special interest groups who are only concerned with what will benefit their small minority.

The single for for politicians: Tell people what they want to hear.

I think those that those who have a true passion in politics are not the ones who go in to take over the government for personal gain. Those are the ones not interested in politics, but simply, personal gain. Stry, I am pretty sure most gamers will want to be game designers, that means the markets will be flooded with avaliable workers. I am keeping the option open to go into game design, but my main course of action will be political studies, and most likely history.

If you want to go into that, start hanging out on political debate. Politics is an endurance field, you'll constantly be taking a beating from the other side. So friends are good, if you're smart in your decisions, and the people who vote are smart enough to know you're looking out for them, you can go far.
But there are lots of crooked politicians, don't be like them.

You don't want to be a scientist. This country turns out way more research scientists than we have jobs for. You'd probably end up in a lab sniffing farts or conducting other lab monkey chores for the first 20 or 30 years of your career.

It's virtually impossible to be a politician and not catering to big companies and lobbyists. You get campaign donations from them in return for promises to benefit them once you're in office. Those benefits are usually not for the good of the people, but to stay in business (get elected or re-elected), you follow up on what's good for business.
That sounds really circular right now. I'll try doing this again latre.

It is really nice that you want to become a politician and all, but it is not wise make that the single gole in your life. As you noted you will keep your options open for game designer and other things, but those are definantly not the kind of jobs that people like to see in someone in politics.
. Why? Well you are going to be competing against people who are coming from fields such as most notably medicine and law, which are highly respected. These offer a since of assuredness that you are a professional, who is willing to invest a lot of time and hard work into everything that you do. They also (usually) provide a financial basis that you can use while you are running for office (most likely not receiving substantial income at that time), and can supplement your election (and hopefully someday your reelection) fund.
. However another thing that you should consider is that you will not be jumping into campaigning for election after only a few years in these jobs. Usually future politicians get some experience in the system by serving as an intern for a senator (I think you said you were a teenager - teenagers can do this during high school summers), or more realistically working in a non-elected county position (during adulthood).
. You would then have to work your way up through the elected ranks (developing contacts), and unless you are squeaky clean, and have a superhuman personality (despite what people may say they want a superhuman to run their country, not some dolt who makes the same mistakes as the rest of us), you will probably not make it past a position in the House of Representatives.
I hope this offers a somewhat realistic view of political employment, and I am sure if it does not this will be pointed out. :p
Good Luck!
Sorry for all the () and run-on sentences. =/

Yeah, well obviously I couldn't start to be the head of a party. I will probably start off as some small town MP, or MLA. Then work my way up from there. Maybe they do want someone who was a lawyer or a business person, but do lawyers and business people want to become politicians? They are probably satisfied with thier current jobs. I dont think that being able to perform an open heart bypass surgery will help with an economic crisis. Working towards a high goal is good, but I dont think I am setting it too high. What politicians really need is a burning passion, or desire, a flame that I think I contain, or atleast have the spark for. I don't want fame and fortune, I don't want to change a single law, but I know I do want to set the world back on track. I have the proper ambitions, and am dedicated to what I beleive is right.
