This would be extremely fucking stupid... but are they going to make you keep the CD in the drive to play?

*cough*liket2was*cough*

I know they do it for piracy reasons, but it does nothing but spin up (eat resources) put files in you tmp folder(slower performance), and sometimes cause DMA stuttering problems. And besides all that, you can copy a disk in under a minute now-a-days, so CD required to be in drive would be useless.

It's not extremely fucking stupid as you so eloquently put it. It's simple, to reduce piracy, The performance decreases are miniscule.

from my expirence most MMO's dont reqiure a CD in the drive, they realy on the account, which requires a cd-key, which requires a cd. :)

I'm pretty sure you need a cd key to get signed up and you probably won't need your cd again after that. I do think it is pretty stupid to require a CD for an account-based game, but I wouldn't rule it out.

I hope you don't mind storing topographical information for 600 square miles on your HD...

Who knows - it is 3CD's for PS. However, since you need an account to play anyway, I doubt you would need the cd in

lol yeh i think ill give that part a miss./ but6 arent the maps al on the servers, and we just run through them? if not then its just gona be so slow. think about it if it was like that then you would haveto have the movements of 3000 people registering on your computer AT A TIME! i doubt anyones comps could take tht.

Lets not forget that you will probably need a credit card number aswell.

You could talk about this all day, and prove nothing. There's really no telling with this sort of thing, the devs may not even have decided yet for all we know.

I'd guess you just install tons of stuff onto your hardrive with the CD, and use the cdkey, then you wouldn't have to use it.

There'll be a CD key for account creation, and in order to play you'll need an active account. So there's no risk of piracy, because there is no way you'll be able to play without an active account -- which means that someone, somewhere is paying a monthly fee.

That said, no, you very likely will not need the CD in the drive. I've never found an MMORPG which required the CD in the drive to play.

3 CDs? Wow... that's alot... Well anyways, I don't mind it requiring a CD. If it didn't require a CD, then it would increase the min. specs. And seeing as how I will barely be over the min. specs, I don't mind the CD.

I just hope it doesn't require 2.3 gigs to install. My HD is already full so...

Your right ! But people hate common sense because it gets them angry and they like to ignore it:whip:

Was it just me, or did he say he needed a CD for T2?

I was never asked for one, and I don't think I put a crack on..

You don't need a CD anymore with this latest patch for T2 but previous patches you did. Actually it might have been the patch before this last one that they did away with it.

UT2k3 is 3cds and they make you keep one of them in the drive. Pretty lame but whatever. :ugh:
