Depends on the particular dialect of |337 you're using. There is no actual correct leet, it's generally just using symbols for letters in some marginally readable way. Since you caught that "+" was supposed to be "T", his version obviously worked :p

No, there is original leet speak which uses only numbers to replace letters, and then there's the bunch of cheezy copies.

From my understanding |337 originally evolved from old school internet BBSs. People would change out certain letters for nunbers/symbols which many times defeated the search engines of the day. There was not however a set lexicon of what was supposed to be used in place of what. The guiding rule of thumb seemed to be just whatever was still readable /shrug

its a dynamic language... it always changes... there is no truely set base... for example: A can= 4 or @, S can= 5 or $... it changes from person to person, which makes it annoying... pretty much like English- You have British English, American English, and then all the American English sub-sections (Spanglish, NY English, GhettoSpeak)

"Leet" as in, "elite", as in, the people who first started using it imagined themselves to be a breed of hackers all their own.

No real geek ever uses leet speak in a serious tone, only script kiddie wanna-bes use it that way. Real geeks only use it to mock the wanna-bes.
