I am thinking of trying out planetside, but in reviews and other sources it is said not many people play planetside anymore. Is this true? Will I spawn into a almost empty world? How many people still play?

First off, you must ask yourself if anything in life is worth your time.
To answer the population question, everytime you log on there has to be at least I would estimate 500-1000 people per empire on, 'cept times like 3-8AM EST.

Indeed, you might as well try it. There are plenty of people still playing PS.

Depends on when you play.
Play on Emerald at 4AM and you'll probably only be fighting a few dozen other people (go figure) on any given continent (there will be one zerg going on, but it will most likely be locked).
Play between 8PM and 12AM ("prime-time") and there will probably be hundreds of people per empire (wouldn't surprise me if there's more than 2000 people total)...fighting on three or four of ten continents...
However, on the continents where fighting is heavy (i.e. - zergs)...there are so many people it's sickening.
PS is still alive and well, it's just not jam-packed full at all hours of the day. I think it's a good game, as you can have a wide variety of skills and characters at your disposal (I have 8 or 9 characters split across all three empires that I switch between when I'm bored...which is why I have no BR20/CR5 juggernauts) you'll have to make your own judgements on whether it's worth your time and money though.

Gah use the fricking edit button, you've made a double post in almost every thread you post in.
Ther are pleanty of people for my tastes, no the huge amount right after release that was a bitch on my 56k connection at the time (upgraded now). Enough for a good fight at almos tall times of the day

Indeed, it is very annoying and totally unecessary. Use the edit button like everyone else. If you are Evilohomer you should already be banned >_<. One nazi after another...

Me personally, I love PlanetSide I didn't know what to expect when I first came in the world. Being a Noob all alone by myself was no fun :scared: . Until one day a friendly soldier by the name of "McQueen" invited me into his squad. He showed me the ropes. He thought me how to hate the VS scum . And form that day forward i was hooked, McQueen is gone now :( , but in his absance i was able to find a new. 0Galatica0 a.k.a. fearless leader. I was able to join his outfit (Tactical Reckoning Force, now looking for new members :D ). so basically what im trying to tell you is your going to have a great time in PlanetSide
