All credit goes to Hayoo unless he says otherwise
- New personal storage items are avialable. This tactical gear can increase normal storage substantially. The major drawback is that each type must take up a holster space to be accessed (by number) and any items inside of them must be placed into the standard inventory area to be used or discarded, such as grenades or ammo. Each gear also slows down the user, the speed decreasing with each gear worn and each type used. The five types of inventory gear are:
a) Bandolier; equippable in slots #1 and #3. The bandolier itself takes up a 3x3 space but it holds 2x8 in inventory, perfect for packing an extra 2 medkits or 4 grenades.
b) Butt pack; equippable in slots #1 and #3. The butt pack itself takes up a 3x3 space but it holds 4x6 in inventory, perfect for 2 medkits and a nano-pack or 6 extra grenades.
c) Satchel; equippable in slots #2 and #4. The satchel itself takes up a 3x4 space but it holds 6x6 in inventory, able to hold 4 ammo boxes or ACEs.
d) Dufflebag; equippable in slots #2 and #4. The dufflebag takes up a 3x6 space but holds 6x8 in inventory, enough for 2 vehicle ammo boxes and 4 nano-packs.
e) Extra Backpack; equippable in slots #2 and #4. The backpack takes up a 3x9 space in the holster but holds the most inventory of 9x9, the same amount held by your current backpack. Therefore this gear doubles a player's inventory space for the loss of one holster.
I think this would be amazingly empowering for infantry. It would make your soldier look unique, allow you to specialize your character for your roll if you didn't need a specific slot, and is generally just very cool.
I don't mean to take traffic away from Hayoo's site, but I thought this was cool enough for publicity. Original design: Here (http://www.jeffmcdowall.com/planetside/idea_patchnotes.shtml#weapons)
This would give a support guy like myself a reason to cert rexo.
Discuss.
Would certainly be a boost for CEs, AV infantryman, and dedicated grenadiers.

That is a great idea.

I'd say give each one a unique quality
Bandoleer- let the items in there be drawn without having to access the bandoleer. I.E: you can f1 for a medpack and draw it from there after your inventory is empty, or draw grenades right from it. If you're using grenades from it, you can hit x to switch types.
Fanny Pack- Can load ammo from it if main inventory runs out, this includes support ammo (Paste, goo). All other gear must be moved into the main inventory for it to be used.
Satchel- Prehaps let vehicles load ammo right from it if you put it in the trunk? So you can be a vehicle ammo runner. To prevent from filling it up with sachels and carring 5,000+ tank shells, have specific slots where they can go.
Dufflebag- Here's where it gets interesting. You can use it to keep stuff to put in your main inventory when the main inv. runs out (can't load directly from it) but you can also use it like a weapon. When you do, you set it on the ground (similar to ACE deployment)and it becomes a temporary trunk. You get a small panel on your bio window near where it shows BEPs and CEPs, and you can set permissions are you would a trunk. Object is no clip so people can't grief by putting them in stupid places, but you can't place them too close together. Can click on a button in it's inventory window to pick it up again. Enemy advanced hackers can hack and either steal items, or take it. Destroyable by enemies, not affected by friendly fire. Put in some fiction about nanoclamps binding it to the floor and not releasing unless the owner clears you for access.
Backpack- As advertised.

I would like to add the Equipment belt to the list:
It takes up one 3x3 holster and Allows the user to have 3 frags, and 2 plasma or jammers, (you can't put anything but nades in the nade space, to acces frags use '6' key, to switch to jammer/plasm hit 'x') a Med/eng ammo, and a bank or medapp, nothing besides that(i.e no wepons or cud)
good ideas. I like LNS's enhancements

Not too shabby. As noted before it'd be a great boon for CEs and I think the bandolier might make grenades a little more useful.

they should make new equipment slots to, if not then the ideas above are awsome

My concern is that having all sorts of storage options would make soldiers ready for anything, which is something I can't imagine the game designers intended to accomplish.

Exactly how much slower could you make Reinforced without turning it into a death trap? The idea has some potential, but reduced footspeed is not a good tradeoff, regardless of how "realistic" it may or may not be.

I would only take off footsped for the bigger ones, Backpack/dufflebag/sachel

I like these Ideas, and LNS0388's addition is very nice, adds a bit of difference to them.
But I think it could easily become to overpowering, and/or slow you down too much to be fun.

Agreed
On a side note: That website has some GREAT ideas on it. I love almost all of them. You ppl should check it out if you havent. He even has some pics and stuff. Nifty :)

.... Ok. So lets get this straight. You want to take a bunch of guys running around in PURPLE armor that shoot multicolored beams of lights to start wearing Fanny packs? In TS we had an interesting discussion on this and dubed fanny packs the Gayest thing ever.
Can you imagine the implications?
:Activates uber gay voice:
Hey guuuuyz!!! Stooop shootin meeee! I need to get my ammo from my Fannnny paaack!!!
:turns off uber gay voice:
Then someone said something about if you have these items you can lock on to them with things like the striker.... Images of Black Hawk Down rang true...
"Shit! Someone locked onto my fanny pack!"
"OMG OMG!! DROP THE PACK!!!"
The terms that would be used for slang would be horrible even if it was called a buttpack... "Hold on I need to pack my butt."

What about for cloakers? If that would work on cloakers then I'd say hell yes.

It would be great for cloakers as they would be able to pack 4 asses in their inventory making it as big as an agile. It would be a great stratigical bonus to create people that are like mules and carry extra ammo for their squads.
People could put a whole bunch of different back packs into their locker to carry extra CC weaponary so you dont have to have more locker space.

Umm, how would it work for cloakers? You would end up with no weapon slot.

The idea is that a cloaker could carry a bandolier or 'buttpack' ( sorry, Peacemaker, but that's what they were called - although I'm open to other names though) in their inventory to carry more items, but when they needed those items, they would right-click it to place the pack into their holster, hit the holster key to open (another small inventory window opens up), drag or right-click the items into main inventory, then swap it back out to inventory and re-equip your weapon or whatever as normal, just like you would switch back and forth between pistol and ACE. Edit*: I should clarify that the storage container does not have to stay in your holster slot. It only needs to be moved there to access the extra inventory.
LSN0388: Nice enhancements. :) I like your idea of turning the dufflebag into a trunk that you can set permissions to. Would come in handy when you needed to bring extra medkits or ammo to your squadmates in a battle that wasn't near an AMS.
I agree that footspeed shouldn't be so low that it makes the game not fun. Although, there must be some kind of restriction on storage items to prevent people from putting 12 packs into their inventory with no penalty. Right now, the concept has 3 penalties:
1) Takes up holster space to actually access the items inside.
2) Takes time to open up the inventory and move items back and forth.
3) Too many storage items slows you down, preventing you from exploiting the feature.
However, I am open to other suggestions if the footspeed decrease isn't do-able. How do we prevent people from exploiting the feature? Do you only allow so many storage items on your avatar? Say something like you've exceeded your Mass Limit for that type of armor. Any more mass and you would slow down, so your suit automatically prevents that from happening. That might actually work. What do you think?

Too bad their isn't a gun that runs straight from a bandolier and doesn't require reloads
I'd have that cert in a heartbeat. It'd probably have horrible accuracy but i wouldn't care
