Well...I stopped playing PS around when the Skyguard was brought in, then cencelled the account a month or so later. Recently I've been getting urges to play again. I could remember the details I used on my account, or even which email I had used to sign up for my original account (active from UK release til skyguard~). I asked around, then heard my characters maybe gone anyway, after an inactivity wipe. I searched for my characters, and they had indeed been removed. Fair enough.

So I then spent all night downloading the 7 day trial from FilePlanet, so I could see if it was worth coming back to. When I eventually logged in...it felt good to be back. Really good. Lots of memories from Beta, and the huge battles of the first few months were running through my mind. I was gonna kick some ...buttocks...yea...them.

Soooo....then I get into my first battle. Oh...My...Donkies. What's happened to this game? Everyone just sits shooting at range, vehicles and MAXs storm. I barely saw 20 infantry in that fight. It just makes the whole...starting a new character without AV thing a joke. And then there's the playerbase thing. Have Sony completely neglected driving PS for SWG? From what I've seen so far, on Werner there seems to be about one large-ish battle at any one time...and that comes nowhere close to the battles I remember. Sony really need to do something to bring people back to PS or new players to the game, in my opinion, as huge battles are what it's all about.

Just had to say all that, as it's such a shame to see such an amazing game, basically not reach a quarter of its potential this early on.

I don't know about Werner but Emerald and Markov are always booming. And yes, since uni-max, tons of people own maxes, but its mostly the VS where you see maxes reign like 1:1 against people.

Yea, when did they do that? And the other unified certs? Seems silly really :/ The Air Cavalry= Reaver + Mosquito = 4+3 and somewhow works out at 4? Super savings if you buy before February 1st :/

I think it was good. The use of more vehicles I thought made PS better. I love the fact that I can spend like 5 cert points and get 4-5 vehicles.

Seems really bad though, that you need AV cert or...lol...AP rounds to survive at all, as it's pretty hard to squeeze all that in when you start (Med assault, and a vehicle, and you're done). I really really preferred when you got a few tanks coming through, a few reavers/mossies, then swarms of infantry. It was a nice balance...and like...stealthing on a tank doesn't work so well.

Just get unimax to start out and get your first few BRs. SA is invaluable to a grunt now because the Deci is the only weapon that does half-decent damage to tanks.

Looks like you're a former DsV... :D

Falcons Division here.

I never liked the TR MAXes due to their complete redundancy :/ ...and that was before they nerfed them. Dunno what they're like now though :\

Its only because VS troops dont have any n00b weapons nebies can use so they go with the best VS have to offer, purple grasshopers that leap from tree to tree onto a onto your reaver shooting purple balls of light.

Those purple balls of light hurt bad. Lets not turn this into a balance thread though. We don't want to make baby Jesus cry.

Yea, there's always been the station boards for them, heh.

Can you blame them? They have damn good maxes heh.

Yeah, the game has changed. If you want to be infantry, you pretty much need special assault, or be a sniper.

Yea, I noticed the lack of close combat. It's like a bad game of counter strike, with everyone camping vantage points :/

I don;t know about anyone else, but I have no problem finding good fights on any server. Yes there are more vehicles and Maxes, just means a change in strategy. As far as ranged combat, i'm fulltime infantry, and I seem to find good size ground troop conflicts. PS kicks ass on all the competition! ;)

Try playing for more than half a day. Got to a pop locked and find a hot tower. That will give you more close combat than you can handle

That'll be great, but to be fair, I was on on a Sunday afternoon (which I'd assume would be a peak time), and there wasn't a continent with less than 90 TR slots, so I have no idea how often pop locks happen on Werner any more....* remembers the frequent pop locks, and the exploit to get round em :'( *

Of course people are playing smarter now. With the amount of troops running around, you can't just run around wherever you want. Your goal as a soldier should be to use tactics and quick thinking so that an engagement doesn't come down to a toe-to-toe contest of who puts more lead in the other guy's chest faster. Stack the odds in your favour by moving carefully and using cover, lying in ambush, etc. That's the core difference in gameplay between Planetside and smaller FPS games, because you really have to think about what you're doing when enemies can attack you from all directions at any time.

Today on Emerald we had a lot of action around Naum/Mulac on Hossin. As TR, I have to say, it was absolute hell being infantry. There was no shortage of Vanguards or MAXs, and though I rarely play anything but a sniper, I found myself without any soft targets, being forced to grab a backpack full of Decimators to try in vain to help against the endless wave of armor. It's no wonder it tooks us hours to capture Naum from the NC today. I truly hope the developers take another good look at how this game is balanced once they roll out the forcefield change, because if Naum were a sub-capitol and things were as they were, we simply would not have been capable of taking it, despite being Population Locked on Hossin.

PS was fine at the start :'( All these silly new features seem to've killed it. The LLUs, new weapons, and so on. If they'd've just fixed the bugs and weapon balance, I'm sure a lot more people would still be playing :\

I dont know what your talking about. Planetside is better by far than it ever has been. Yeah Vanguards are unholy death machines but nothing a minefield and a thumper of jammers couldnt solve and this is the same of all vehicles. Sony is going to buff AV ammo boxes so expect to see more effective trooper AV in future patches
