http://www.drivecam.com/about-drivecam.html <--Reason he had a camera in car

Founded in 1998, DriveCam Video Systems develops fleet safety technology that improves driving performance and lowers operating costs for commercial fleets. The company markets fleet safety programs and services that integrate in-vehicle video technology, driving performance management software, and driver counseling to reduce the cost of poor driving.

By changing driving behavior, DriveCam's customers have documented dramatic reductions in collisions. When collisions occur, DriveCam recordings provide unbiased evidence to determine fault and expose fraudulent insurance claims. Thousands of commercial vehicles and their drivers are now protected by DriveCam's Driving Feedback System.

Improved driving performance is the single most important factor in controlling insurance losses and reducing expenses for fleets. DriveCam directly addresses this by changing driver behavior to reduce erratic driving and decrease the frequency and severity of collisions and related bodily injuries. At the same time, it lowers liability costs, speeds insurance processing and reduces fleet operation and maintenance costs.

Due to its proven results, DriveCam's fleet safety program has been recognized and endorsed by the insurance industry as an effective loss control system.

My friends question why I wear a seat belt. When we go to rowing practice, circa 20 of us have to cram into two E-series Ford vans. There sometimes isn't enough space for everyone to sit, some have to stand. If we hit something, God help us, there is no room to fly. It will look like that school bus rollover video.

Except me because I wield the powar of the seat, and I usually sit in the back for no particular reason.

You guys have no idea. I just got back from a trip in Yosemite in California. The roads were icy, and, we were in an SUV. :( Near-Death.

I'll post pics and a whole new thread about it later.

Wow, did you see the G forces? I am guessing he is about 300 lbs, he pulled 8.x Gs while hitting the windshield...

Wouldn't that be the same as someone smashing a 2,400 pound hammer into your head?

I never understand people that don't wear their seatbelt. It is not really uncomfortable, it is not a hastle to remember to put it on if you do it every time. I don't know of anyone that does not know someone that has been in a fatal car accident, so its not like they can think accidents are rare!

I drive 45 miles one way to work, every single day. Thats over 22,000 miles a year in just driving to and from my office, I most likely put closer to 30,000 miles a year on my car. I am willing to bet a large sum of money that I will be in a high speed crash sometime before I retire, the statistics would back me up on that one. So thats why I wear my seatbelt, and bought a car with front and side impact airbags, ABS, and stability control.

I'm wondering why his first instinct wasn't to grab the wheel with 2 hands. I mean, if you're sleeping on the road and suddenly run off, your body will wake up faster than you can blink and you'll be alert. Why didn't he grab the wheel with 2 hands?!

On the third viewing of this, the look on his face hit me. Probably has a wife and kids, likes NASCAR, what have you. Doesn't want to die. Goes to show you that a couple simple mistakes are all that seperate any of us from being snapped like a twig.

I laughed at that one the first time, I'll admit, but looking at his face made me think back to all the times I imagine I had the same one. It's the 'oh no, what have I done.' face--terror, fear, and regret. I've been lucky to scrape by every time, and it seems so was he, but I can't laugh at it.

Now if he screwed over people other than himself, I think my sympathies would be against him. At least he learned his dual lessons while he was the only one in the car.
