Ok, today I finally logged in an hour or two on PS. During one of my recalls to sanc., I overheard quite a few people talking about some of the "better people" on broadcast chat. They kept saying stuff about their previous battles vs. Godjoey (kill leader for all 3 servers) and other high-ranking kill leaders. And honestly, everyone was fuckin worshipping them (none of them were there, but they just kept on rambling about how amazing they were.) They kept babbling about how amazing the leaders were, and how they can pwn all of'em with a sneeze, and other such BS.

Rather than argue with the idiots, I decided to release my frustration here. I FUCKIN hate when people really look up to people who do better than you in game (in this case, more kills). First of all, don't look up to them, it is just a game. Second of all, don't look up to them, it is only a game. Third of all, anyone CAN do just as good, as it is more a matter of who plays more. Obviously, natural skill plays a big factor, but it's more a factor of who plays the most.

To prove this, I went to PS stats.com and whipped up the stats for Godjoey (http://www.planetsidestats.com/?s=characters&worldId=15&charId=286603) (I picked godjoey because he is the most worshipped, I'm obviously not blaming him.). But just look, his kills per hour is about 31. That is good, yes, but look at some of the total kills on some of the days he plays. With some math, (KPH of the day divided by total kills of the day) we see that he plays AT LEAST 4 hours per day. This is judging from the days of the 6th to the 14th. I skimmed through the rest however, and it is all more or less the same. Some days he reaches up to 15 fuckin hours a day.

I bet everyone can do just as good if not better if they played that much. So please, don't worship other gamers, in any game not just PS. Another example, is slayers-boxers, if you're familiar with him from SC. They're just other people, and usually the case is that they don't have a social life.

Just needed to get this out, and obviously I'm not going to post this into broadcast/command chat.

Whoa calm down. It happens in any online game. In a FPS kills are like gold, so lots of people want the kills so people who have the kills are looked up to by other players who want the kills. Chill out dude, not evryone thinks like this and it's a pretty easy thing to ignore.

The only reason to care about this is if you wanted to be one of the people being worshiped and perhaps have some sort of jealousy issue...

I was one of those people in Medal of Honor :). Leader of Angels of Death clan if you ever heard of it.

It is pretty stupid...all it is, is as you said, who plays the most. Not to mention how they get those kills(ex: spawn camping).

GODJOEY <cough>cheat<cough> got banned, thats how he scored most of his kills

All leaderboard people use the flail. One of the squad that wants exp lazes while he shoots, that simple.

I think anyone who plays PS more then 4 hours a day (on average) has no life <cough>GODJOEY<cough>,<sneeze>dreamer<sneeze>. How could you play more then 4 hours a day on average theres work/educations, appointments, you have to see that shiny orb of light in the sky sometime.

I have a terrible cold.

banned? i don't think he did, he was never proven to be cheating, and the speedhack was countered.

No most of the leaderboard people used Surgiles and Reaver, and have no life at all.

I think the most I've played in one day is about 10 hours. .......this was during a rainy day in beta (so of course I was obsessed) but I play about an hour or two on the weekdays (I have no social life outside of work) and on friday and saturday night I may spend 3 or 4 hours.

Hmm - Worship, no I don't worship those people (though I do recognise the name GodJoey from looking at the stats board (which I did once)). I think I probably envy them though (combination of game time and abilty)

The people I 'worship' are the ones that have allowed a noob to squad with them and shown me 'around' the game, taught me stuff and generally been a laugh to squad with. Both had high BR 17-19 (which is high from where I'm looking) and really didn't need me around.

Who repaired the most friendly equipment terminals lately? How about the most MAX armor? Ok, who spent 10 minutes repairing an AMS that was being targetted by a Phoenix brigade? Hmm, how about the guy who spent the most time healing his wounded allies?

I'll reserve worship for the same God that blesses the Terran Republic every day, but I'll certainly extend kudos to those who spent more time looking after the basics rather than simply kill-whoring all day long.

BTW KPH, isn't Killer per hour, it's kills per hack. It's a pretty weak way to say you do more killing than support work (i.e. hacking).

Yep, I agree with what 2mTS said. I may envy them a bit, for being great at the game and for being able to max out their characters, but I certainly don't worship them. When all's said and done, it's just a game. "Nuff said.

Third of all, anyone CAN do just as good, as it is more a matter of who plays more.

Do me a favor then. Play more, and prove it, cause while I agree, there is still more to it than just that.

For instance. You're br 14 cr2, suggesting you have played longer since you have a higher cr than me, that and my TR is a fairly new account. Yet I have about the same kills as you.

I'm not trying to be a troll, but constantly hearing that the only way you can get on the kill board is by playing more than everyone else is utter bs.

Also, you're system of determining how many hours godjoey plays... is completely flawed. There is no way to track kills per hour. KpH = kills per hack. So unless you time how long he is online, and keep track of how many kills he is accumulating you honestly have no idea what is going on.

Just to reiterate so it doesn't seem like I'm trolling, I agree, the only way you're going to get on the leaderboard is to play a lot, but there is skill in it too.

He did mention in the next sentence that natural skill plays a role but it's primarily who plays more.

Not only is this MY FIRST account besides beta, I don't squad unless I want CEP, explaining why I might gain levels faster.

The fact that KpH was kills per hack is news to me. It just seems smarter to put it kills per hour over kills per hack.

Just to reiterate so it doesn't seem like I'm trolling, I agree, the only way you're going to get on the leaderboard is to play a lot, but there is skill in it too.

Don't think there is a way to track kills per hour.

PS is a shitty game for competition. It could be a good, even great game for competition/ladder play but it would take some rather momentous changes to do it right. Maybe someday in the future it'll be added but I rather doubt it. The game was never really designed with team based competition in mind as one of the major goals. Team based fighting? Yes, but not competition. It's basically one long endless fight on a massive public server where the major determining factors are how many people you have (for outfits) and how much you play (for solo stats) /shrug
