View Full Version : How do weapons fire?

I just glanced at the begining of a thread about nerf the starfire in OF. IM wondering if the weapons all fire on auto in even amounts or do they all have there own unique characteristics? Like do The TR weapons fire at an even pace when you hold down the trigger or does each successive blast come out and a uneven interval like a big fast unsteady straining gatling gun?
Each weapon has it's own rate-of-fire. For that weapon, full auto (ie: holding down the mouse button) fires a steady stream of inaccurate bullets. Most people, however, fire by tapping the mouse and firing in short bursts, which leads to a less steady stream of more accurate bullets.

You should play the game, at least download the trial.
Edit: You hold down left click, the weapon fires, it won't stop until you let go.

I know they come at at different speeds per weapon and the cof and stuff. But do they come out at an even interval or do some weapons come out at an overall speed with lunky intervals per bullet. he was saying nerf the starfire and make it weaker per shot or something else. But what if they made it Where the bullets came out at odd intervals per bullet on bigger TR guns. Like one bullet comes out at at 1 second then the next 1/3 a second later then the next 3/4 a second later, but not on those exacts times based on the weapons actualy speed. So like splitting the bullets exit times form the gun at like +- from its current to make it a little different. Not saying for TR individual but as another lv of depth to some weapons that it would be apporpriate for. (+- would be anywhere in between the maximum and minumun numbers not the numbers stated. and obviously it would ahve to have more algorithms to steady it out and give it something morerealistic) Actually do any weapons do that now? Or are they all flat rate of fire?
Edit: im on 56k with a 4 gig modem. I unfornutaly cant even hold the game or would have. Ill have the game in like a few weeks so hopefully... But i was just wondering what they are like now. Are they planning ot make weapone fire more characteristic in the future if its not.

Don't you mean harddrive?
And they come at a steady ROF, the other thing would probably cause lag, which we don't need. Of course, you don't know that, because you don't play planetside.

For future reference aital a gatling gun is a VERY steady stream of bullets.
uneven interval like a big fast unsteady straining gatling gun

i know. I was using it as an example if you did slow a gatling gun. Im thinking more like gatling gun type firing sytem with 20 pund bullets and a barrel that 3/4 a foot in diameter literally. Or something really big. It would still be more interesting in general. like they changed the firing pins technology or something, its not completely unrealistic. Im just hoping the guns arenet completely two dimensional in there firing rate. IM hoping the gatling guns fire like gatlin guns, and some of them fire like gatling guns with futuristic design so theres more feel gun to gun. You could realisticaly make a pin have liquid pressure system that isnt as steady as a mechanical one but have other advatages to teh gun in a futureistic game. I just dont want to get into the game and find some aspects of it are really flat and boring.
I dont care if they all do it. It would seem nice if they all individualy had something unique in that aspect besides how fast the bullets come out.
if they do make this game mroe and more realistic it would be nice so i dont have to switch to a game with more realistic aspects in a year or two. If you add something ot the bullet weapons like missing a bullet every 100 rounds and stuff like i said above then it will be nice when games all get more simulator lv stuff in htem. IM not saying add it now. But that type of stuff will ad more balance per weapon and give engery vs traditional weapons some real meaning. This was some of the stuff i was hoping was actually in this game whne i first heard about it. And i hope will be in it later when systems are more powerfull. Thats all. I was asking because as i said i was hoping htey were already in it. And i am going to be playing very soon if all goes well. Cause i dont see why it wouldnt but..*crosses fingers*
You know what else would be cool in the future. Weapons lock ocassionally where you have to hit the button a few times to get it to unstick that has a time interval inbetween the times you can hit it(like 1.5-2 seconds) untill you unstick it like you were pounding on the tup of the gun or playing with the clip or however you get it unstuck for certain type weapons and stuff like that. And you get to see your characters hand move across and fiddle with the top of the gun. :p Nothing that takes to much time but adds something mroe to do in the game. With slightly slower pace in some ways. If it doesnt already fit into the game now. ^^ Im hoping the game makes it into the simulator age of gaming ok 8)

Damage at Range > Delay
The delay is the time interval between shots.

Aital, you are a stupid fuck. THIS GAME DOES NOT HAVE GATLING GUNS. And don't you think they would have unjammable guns 2000 FUCKING YEARS FROM NOW? :stoppost:

If someone is using a slow PC and is being strained, the CPU resources will be divided and strained enough that their shots will come out at uneven intervals and it is no fault of yours at all. Their key/mouse presses get buffered and backed up as the CPU catches up on work load, then all are processed rapidly at 99% CPU usage and you will get a hail of bullets coming at you. On my old PC it use to happen with me all the time, I would get low FPS, the screen would freeze for half a second, I would unload 5 Lasher orbs instantaneously and instagib my opponent =/. Got alot of hate tells, and OMGWTFHAX! tells. It use to kill me alot more than it helped me.
