I stopped by, just for the hell of it, to see what the hot topic is...big mistake.
Every other thread is a nerf teh Gauss or nerf the Phoenix post. Where the hell did all of the hate come from all of the sudden? Am I going to be called a noob for using my Empires' medium assault? Oh, or my overpowered rocket launcher? I wanted to reach through my monitor and strangle every single one of the rejects that posted there.

People who want the guass or pheonix nerfed need to see a shrink.
The JH is sometimes a bit over powered just becsaue the fight is alwasy inside, thats the JH's stronge point, and the netcode of Ps isn't all that great.
The OF is nothing but a bunch of whiners(except for a couple of people)
Its becuase most peopl percive the NC to be hugley over powered, but when you look at the World map most of the time the conts/fights are ballenced

The Gauss is amazingly good for the people who master it, but the learning curve is fairly steep. When somebody takes me out with it I just kind of resign myself to losing to somebody who was willing to put in a good amount of time to get good with a fairly difficult weapon.
The Phoenix is ridiculous against MAXs, that's about it. It is fun as hell to use though.

The Gauss and Phoenix most definatly do not need nerfs lol. AV in general needs a variable damage table and have its effectivness on tanks upped but the phoenix as it stands right now is the only "good" AV anyways. The Gauss arguments are absurd and I consider the Cycler better than it by a very large margin.
The OF is shite and now that we have our own Dev Tracker I have no reason at all to go there

Anyone that has ever used the guass as thier prime weapons knows how to get some kills with it, but as soon as you pick up a cycler you realize how much better you would be with that. The pulsar is in the same boat as the guass(but now it has the AP advantage w/ the rexo buff, you can acctualy do more damage to them by using AP the switching to regular)
Yes the phoenix is good with maxes but only at range or when the max is preocupied, it may only take 3 shots but it takes forever to reload and you have to guide yout missle all the way to the target. If a max is smart and runs you can't finish them off. Or if they hide right behind a big tall obstical becue the pheonix cant turn that sharp

My problem was I'd played TR for a while before I even tried the Gauss out. I was really good with the Cycler, and started an NC character and redefined noob. I was stunned at the CoF bloom and didn't see how anybody could use it effectively. It does take some time and training to control that bloom, once you realize the damage the individual shots are doing (vs. the Cycler) it's easier to swallow that.

You must switch between Markov, Emerald and Werner every day and play all day to know what it's like at off peak hours becouse that is the only way you would know that.

I can't visit the Official Forum, something wrong with my computer setup that stops it being downloaded.
But I guess it's not really a problem since everyone usually says it's not worth visiting anyway...

This is why I like it here. :)
Anyways, I love my gauss. Been a staple in my loadouts for a year now. I will however pickup a cycler if I am moving indoors. The advantage of the larger clip size cannot be beat when moving in close.
I consider myself pretty skilled with the gauss these days. The last VS/NC bridge battle on Cyssor I was dropping Lasher user sleft and right. By backpeddling and strafing out of the way of the disco balls of death, they would die before I took any substantial damage. This doesn't work as well with the TR since the projectiles move to fast to dodge and the increased accuracy over the Lasher.
Overall, I am more than confident that one-on-one I could take any enemy if we started at a range of about 100 meters. I commonly will engage two to three enemies at this range and win. The secret is knowing how to fire the weapon and controling the bloom. Paired with personal shield and second wind means you are a very formidable force to be delt with.

The gauss is a wonderful rifle. You just need to have fire control. 2-3 round bursts at a time and that's it. Unfortunately with my standard loadout (Gal Pilot/engineer), I rarely have the space to equip one.

Black, I hate to burst your bubble, but 5 kills in a row isn't exactly astonishing. It's good, mind you, but certainly not astonishing.

NS, all ya gotta do is stand back from about 100-75m from a large battle, weaving a bit so it's hard for BD's to hit ya', and fire off bursts at incoming enemies. With a bit of luck, and quite probably multiple reloads, its certainly possiible.

I <3 the OF :D
SmokeJumperPS: The Lasher is getting a clip of 25 (up from 20) and a reload timer of 3 seconds (down from 4 seconds).
SmokeJumperPS: I'll go ahead and remove the "don't lash close" constraint.

Is that true?
And what does it mean "don't lash close" constraint"?

Yes, it's true. The 'don't lash close constraint' was the fact that a lasher orb does not lash out at enemeies at all untill it had moved more than five meters from the lasher barrel. This was done to save potential grief for a lasher user as they had not implemented the "No Lash Friendlies" code. However, now the lasher orbs do not have the ability to lash friendlies at all. (before they did) Therefore, there is no reason for it not to be lashing the instant it comes flying out of the Lasher barrel. Now the two properties of the Lasher orb are redundant so smoke is removing the "Don't Lash Close" constraint.
Whoa, that sounds like a pretty big Lasher buff, when combined with the ammo and reduced reload time. WTF?
