mmmm...is there a bug in the game? because I was playing a little bit earlier, and for some reason NC's weren't showing up on my radar. It was so frustrating, i would glance at my radar and i see nothing, I will walk into a room, look around, see nothing, then walk further in then get shot with a Jackhammer behind from an NC that came out of nowhere.
Is this a new bug? It makes my radar useless, and you will die all the time because you can't see them, or detect them.

That seems to be one of the most-wanted things in the game, empire-specific aircraft. That and a naval or space expansion.

Getting back on topic, I'm pretty excited about the possibility of Empire Air. But I don't like the idea of them being Ancient-Tech (assuming that's what AT is referring to).

Me either, since you can look at it one of two ways:

one- the AT Air are developed from culled Ancient Tech.
two- the ancient Vanu predicted TR, NC, and VS coming and left prototype aircraft for future use.

Ancient-Tech air would mean you have something like a flying Switchblade, like those things on Stargate. How do you come up with Empire-Specific from a bunch of lasers and capacitors? It somewhat negates the "firepower philosophy" of the three empires, and means we'll be based more on Vanu. And it also means we'll have gray-skinned Core Combat aircraft flying around without the cool TR colors or the blue-yellow NC and purple-teal VS.

I like the idea of making the Jackhammer common pool and removing the alt-fire. Then there could be no complaining about the overpoweredness of it, and no one-shot kills on standard or infiltration armor.

For the NC's empire specific HA, create the Gauss Cannon; a semi-automatic, air cooled assault rifle with 25 round clips of hard-hitting lead. It fires as fast as the player can click the mouse, but has a large cone of fire that shrinks quickly when the weapon isn't being fired.

That's a novel idea, but it has as many pros at it does cons. Namely, if they take away the NC HA weapon and make it common pool, then the other two empires now have to deal with jackass powergaming kiddies switching teams YET AGAIN. I think it's a bad idea and it will thoroughly fuck the game up, and I agree with the developers when they say there's no need or no plan to do this.

But.

If they're gonna do this, why don't they just create a cert called "CQB" and put the Jackhammer and the Sweeper in it, and then make a new NC empire-specific cannon to bitch about? If the NC have "Gauss Rifle" as their medium assault, why not a heavy-hitting railgun (aka gauss weapon)? Gauss weapons use a magnetic field to propel a projectile at incredible velocity. Generally speaking, ammunition for portable gauss weapons comes packed with a disposable battery of sufficient power to fire the entire MAGAZINE (not clip). Ammunition is most often simple solid metal needles, which effectively means armor-piercing. Since railguns would theoretically use lots of power, rounds would be slow between the firing unless you made it a rotary barrel weapon with some sort of jumped-up sci-fi explanation. So the flipside of a big-ass railgun's slow reload time would be hard-hitting rounds.

But again. That was just devil's advocate, to take into account your position. My personal opinion is that the Jackhammer needs to be fixed and not thrown to another common pool category.
