What do you guys think of the way that they changed the poplulation lock system so that all 3 empires have the same amount allowed on a continent at one time.

This issue really presses the ill nature of the HART. Three empires all HARTing around near enemy SOIs is too chaotic, and much more common now.

I like it.
But you bring up a good point about the hart. The thing shouldn't be on a 4 min timer it needs to be atleast 15 min

I remember when the HART was 8 mins and we used to go by galaxy from sanctuary to whatever continent. Bring that back tbh. :P
But yeh I think its nice as when we see NC and TR fighting on Forseral we know we (the VS) can have a decent stab at it as well. :)

The new pop lock isn't in the game yet, Smoke has already posted that they boned it up and are going to have to put in a hot fix.

Some of the more exciting battles on PS are the ones where one empire nipping at your flank and another empire nipping your other side. If the new pop lock changes make such battles happen more often, that's fine by me.

The hotfix went in early yesterday morning. It is in fact, in effect now. I played some last night, and from the general gist of the battles, I think I like it better this way...maybe. I'll need more time playing with it in effect before I'll know for sure, but as it is, now the fights are much more spread out. Instead of one pop-locked continent per empire with almost everyone else just sitting in the WGs trying to get in to that continent, there are sometimes 2 pop-locked continents and one or two <100+ continents per empire, which gives you a much wider variety of continents to choose from. Another, slightly less intentional effect of this is now you know more often which fights have moderately sized forces as the max population per empire is lowered (before, there could be a large sized force on a continent, but no one would really know because there would still be 100+ positions available. Now, with the same sized force on a continent there would be < 100+ showing so people will know there's a good sized force of friendlies there).

Bah, rather than say, "I love it, threee-ways are the most fun!" it should have been, "I love it, threesomes are the most fun!"

WTF mate. We've been fighting on Amerish all goddamn night. Only 2 caps have occured in a >4 hour period. Because there is no numerical advantage it's one big stalemate circlejerk. Repetition has risin to an entire new level.
In other words, I'm not sure if I like the poplock change or not. It looked good on paper, but we'll have to see how it works out.
I think the present stalemate is exactly what will bring about the evolution of tactics over numbers. Previously, a failure to win simply indicated that you didn't have enough people. Now to break the line you need something over your opponent other than more men on the ground.
It really is the only hope for the game to rise above the 'zerg.'
I'm also finding myself liking the medium sized fights. I'm not a big fan of the 'one big orgy of death with every other continent empty' style of gameplay.

If they would just get rid of the HART now I'd be happy.

What exactly did they do in the "Hot fix"? I hadn't heard about it.

Fixed the population control that was supposed to be in the patch itself.

im lovin the pop limit now it rules :D
I guess markov was right all along, screw strategy and tactics, lets just have never ending 3-way battles.
/endrant
I guess I'm just bitter that after developing a working strategy for the old pop-cap system that emphasized defense and forced two empire fights, the dev team decides to piss in my wheaties by forcing 3 empire fights and goddamn stalemates.

I kind of like the new pop system. I do know the nc are going to have it ruff on Emerald due to the TR VS alliance. I have seen them fight along side each other on cyssor. I do like it because if you can get peeps to stick around long enough it also makes defence a little more of a fighting chance. Not much more but a little more. Also it doesn't get all one sided for the empire that gets to the cont last. It spreads out the enemy more and keeps the zerg down some, not to much but some.

There is no TR VS alliance. Get over that thought. I hear VS saying, "Why are the NC and TR working togeather OMG#@Y*%$#@Y#@," while we're working on Cyssor. It's just people being myopic. If you actually watch the continent map you see that while the TR and VS press on Gunuku at the same time as we so commonly do, the VS are sweeping the southwest because the TR rarely pay attention to that area of the map in this situation.
As for the topic at hand, I do hope real tactics evolve, because as it sands now, we end up with massive, neverending stalemates that are neither entertaining nor productive.

For good tactics, we'll need a lot more vaguely intelligent CR5's, and that's probably not gonna happen :( .
