So, my wireless network has become a royral pain in the neck and I am changing over to a wired network (wave of the future my butt). I have to run a cable, outside of my hose from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor and my question is:

1.) Will a cable that long (just guestimate on the length cause I don't know) be able to transfer data reliably.
2.) Can I buy special outdoors network cable that is grounded?

Thanks in advance.

1. yes
2, Put it though your walls its not that hard. And why would you need grounded cable? i bet they make waterproof stuff. but it not like it matters unless you get watter on a part that is exposed, as cat5 has an outer sheathing, and a sheathing over each of the 8 wires in side of it

I can't put it throught the walls cause of old house/unapproving parents.

The reason I need grounded is in case of lighting stirke I don't wanna lose my comp/start a fire.

Preach it, I managed to convince/fool my parents into letting me have the modem/router in my room at my comp and they get stuck with the wirless connections.

With a lightning strike that close, ethernet is going to be the least of your worries. Be far more concerned with power and phone lines. Just being outside won't attact lightning any more than if it was running accross the floor.
