Im all TR here and I like my MA for the most part but most VS just dont use their MA right. For instance, the pulsar is great in almost all situations. Its essentially a gauss but has 2 great advantages. A. uses the same rounds for ap as AI. B. larger clip and gnear the same damage. If you use this gun right it can be unbelieveably effective. I dont see many of the VS carrying them around but whenever i manage to get one i always at least get 4 kills before i die in almost all situations.
Thoughts? Disagreements? Flames? Agreements?

That was totally uncalled for Spee, you could have just said you disagree with what he said.

you forgot your /sarcasm tags noob.
But yeah, the Pulsar is ok, but the damage dropoff at range kills it for me. The AI/AP switch can come in handy every once and a while though.

I've started carrying it as a back-up rifle when I snipe from base walls, to help kill those guys that get up close to the wall. It's also not bad for defending against people that charge my position when I'm sniping from a hillside. A few times I've assaulted towers with it with nice results. It's severely out-classed by MCG spray, but I've managed to nail some JH surgiles. I've chased off a few light vehicles too from tower roof-tops using AP mode. They get pissed with the endless nickle-and-diming.
I would like to try an all-pulsar squad for taking on maxes/tanks/reavers. 10 guys all nickle-and-diming can add up to some dollar bills. Throw a few advanced medics and thumpers in there and you might have some real versatility.

The pulsar is great for medium range, 5 shots till the Cone expands and the CoF isnt as big as you think, In back door defending go all the way to the back and you will be ready for anything. Reloading time is very fast.

Heres the reason why most VS don't use Pulsar:
www.greyfalcon.net/pulsardeg.gif (Damage over Range)
Damage degradation is just too steep at range, and at closer range you'd rather have a HA anyways.
If they changed it to be like this, for instance:
www.greyfalcon.net/balancepulsar.gif
Then you'd see plenty of people using it.

The Pulsar is not nearly as effective as the Gauss. You can't compare them like that. Now I'm not saying buff the Pulsar, it is good for what it needs to do, which is do some damage at medium range, but it just isn't as effective as the Gauss or Cycler. Sure, its big advantage is that you can easily switch between normal and AP rounds...but those AP rounds can't deliver a good amount of damage to armored targets. Indoors, you might as well be using a beamer, Pulsar's specialty isn't indoor battles, that's for sure.

Pulsar is an ok range weapon, because it can do ok damage vs both people and maxes. Sucks indoors though.

Yeah, the Pulsar's ability to switch from AI to AP would be great if the AP rounds were actually effective. I've messed around with the Pulsar, and I found that it's actually a pretty good weapon. But it does, unfortunately, pale in comparison to the Gauss and Cycler.
You guys have it backwards, pulsar is only good in medium-close range, where it is excellent in my opinion.

It's just worse than Cycler,Guass,MCG,JH,Sweeper at close range
And worse than Cycler,Gauss at long range
Medium range, yeh it's nifty.

I definently thinks its better close range thatn the guass, mostly becasue it have a larget clip and higher rate of fire, those matter more at that range thatn damage with MA like things

I dunno Rbster.
Maybe if the target is an Agile, but if it was a ReXo, I'd much rather have a Gauss rifle in close range.
Heh, do I even need to post the graph AGAIN ;P

I think they are fun but prefer m y Cycler. I do loot them for sheer suprise value though. If some VS hears a pulsar going off behind them I generally have a second or two to kill them because the sound is familar as friendly and a lot of folks don't connect the sound with the damage they are taking. I walked up on a couple snipers one day and wasted one, the other did not even flinch, until I wasted him too.

Lilpop, also asside from the sound.
TR/VS/NC Cycler fires Red/Blue/Yellow bullets
TR/VS/NC Gauss fires Red/Blue/Yellow bullets
TR/VS/NC Pulsar fires Blue/Blue/Blue bullets
Unless you can identify the shooter, theres absolutly nothing telling you that the he's not just some ignorant TKer.

The one thing all my characters have in common is MA. So I'm fairly familar with the Pulsar. As said above, at medium ranges it does the job, but it is not superior to the Cycler and certainly not the Gauss.
I use AP mode alot even if it's not incredible. I use it to plink away at MAXs on my characters that do not have SA/AV. (my cloakers) Even if I do not get the kill (and likely I will not) I'm softening that ScatterMAX for friendlies to kill. That is a good thing.
I guess the best word to describe the Pulsar to me is: Adequate. It's not exceptoinal or horribly subpar, but it is adequate. Also as noted above, what keeps it from moving from Adequate to Good/Great is the damage degredation. I wish damage degredation was taken down a notch or two. That would make me feel much better about my Empire's MA without feeling overpowered.

It has a 40 shot clip, the ability to fire armor-piercing rounds and uses an ammo type that enemies cannot attain except by looting them.
Damage degradation should be radically limited on all ballistic weapons (edit: and removed from all energy-based weapons). You're just as dead if a bullet hits you at 1000 feet as you are if it hits you at 100 feet. Deader, perhaps, since at 1000 feet the bullet may not cause an exit wound, and may linger in your body.
Besides, damge degradation smacks of realism, and in a game that forsook other aspects of reality, this one seems like an odd inclusion.
Opinion.

The next patch will be a balance pass. We'll see who has what after that.
It's far from the best gun, but eh. It works.

The Pulsar has a very difficult range. It is much worse at long range than the Gauss and Cycler. It is a better weapon at the 30-50m range but this is precisely the problem. At 30-50m you are now in range of the enemy thumpers and would be better off using a thumper yourself at that range. Also at 30-50m you can be rushed by surge and heavy assault. What can Sony do though? If they tighten the Pulsar CoF, it would be the best MA by a longshot
