Just wondering how many people use ts while playing, it is definetally one of the best options for keeping squads all together and organised.
edit: i know the tr have thier own server, do the other empires have any?

I don't like using any extra ram (i have 3 gig) and waste my harddrive space! I go for typing or ingame voice chats!

You have 3 gig of RAM and can't spare the 10MB that TS uses? HDD space is too precious to waste on a 7MB installed program? What the hell are you doing? hosting a windows exchange server for AOL in the background? Have I been trolled?

The use of TS2 is a requirement for consideration to be accepted into the Dragon Wolves. We use that program exclusively for all ops and have a server running 24/7 for its use.

I've heard of a lot of outfits \ squads where it's mandatory and where they have dedicated hosting.
I've had a quick test in isolation and it seems ok. Never used it with PS running as I don't think my system could hack it. If I upgrade to a better machine then it might well be a permanent feature. I think my outfit \ squad might not agree though, I tend to be quite chatty on the Chatterbox (and get killed a lot 'cos of it!).
I'd only use it to make the game more enjoyable whether that's from increased coordination or just making the telling of jokes easier should be up to the individual.

... Wow Mani posted.
Yea CDL uses TS all the time for our ops. Sometimes it gets crowded in the chans tho. But thats what wisper is for. Wisper is a cool little command alot like /pl for platoons. It lets designated channel commanders talk to each other. So one chan can be for the air guys and another for the grunts. If the grunts get into trouble and need support the chan commander wispers to that air chan commander who will call in the air strike.

Playing without TS isn't playing, like Peace said, a little discipline and intelligent use of whispers and you can have quite a few people into a channel and multiply your combat effectiveness exponentially. Having distinctive voices helps too.

I would like to but is there somewhere I can get all the info before I buy a mic and sign up for a TS2 server? Thanks

If I log on PS, i log on TS. Shadow Dynasty uses it constantly and we have a 24/7 server.

I've used it once or twice to keep in contact with the CR5s.

I always had it loaded on my computer and never really used it since i had 512 ram and a crappy video card. But since i upgraded to a gig of ram i decided to try it out and the PS experience was much better, as I thought it would be.
I could tell i was missing out alot from when i wasnt using it, like when someone locates an enemy AMS and put a waypoint down most of the time squads just say it into TS and dont bother to type, they just assume everyone is on TS because they SHOULD be. Anytime I get the chance to play now for longer periods then the standard time i get to play then ill be firing up TS.

I turn it on before hooking up with the 666th MCT. Never will you find a more patient, skilled, and disciplined fighting force (with the possible exception of TheRedX's gang). After fighting with 'em, all the other squads I've joined with TS seem like a gaggle of whining pussys (kittie cats that is...;)).

I couldn't imagine playing Planetside without TS. Also, alot of you are saying dedicate 24/7 TS server, DUH! What kind would it be if it was only on at certain hours, that would be crappy. Technicly, TS is illegal to SOE. "No software will be used to gain an unfair advantage." I'm pretty sure they mean hacking software but if they didn't allow TS, I'm sure they would've dealt with it by now.

I use TS. Officers and above have access to TS in my outfit and I just so happen to be an officer.

TeamSpeak is an immense help when communicating across multiple platoons. I would never play a game without it now.
It's good, but the most annoying thing is knowing when to turn it on cause when I alt-tab out of Planetside, I never have enough memory to actually load the program. Then there's my ghost of an outfit-- maybe 1 in 3 times I log on, there are people on who are using TS so then I have to quit the game to load teamspeak. Other times I'll be playing along and TheRedX keeps sending me tells to join the tank raid, so then I have to exit to get into that. They both use different teamspeak servers, so it's really impossible to know where to connect to ahead of time, and since TS noticeably lowers my framerate I don't want to leave it up all the time... Argh, it is such a frustration to me.
I never play other games without TS on, so it is kind of a strange situation to have it bork Planetside so much that I don't want it on, when Planetside is such a perfect game for it. If only they could cut down on memory usage or something. Oh well.

@JAGD: Use Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the Task Manager up and alt-tab to that instead, works for me.
And our outfit use TS, but not many in the outfit seem to use it yet.

Ts lowers FPS? you cant spare a couple frames for better communication?

AO1 uses it, and for anyone that hasn tried it yet: Get it. Its what keeps most people in PS longer. Without it, it is very hard to communicate to people that you are trying to work with, especially gunners to drivers.

We use Ventrillo but really the same dif. We tried them all and Ventrillo sounds better and just seems to run better then any others... at least so far.
Anyone not one voice is missing out a huge part of the game! When we run Flight ops with 4 wings of 2 reavers each, all ussing coordinated attacks oin single targets... it's a beautiful thing!

Sadly, I am already running in 16-bit color with detailed vehicles off, flora off, shadows off, detail mesh off, etc, etc. I don't have any room to maneuver when it comes to keeping PS in the 20-30 FPS range, and sometimes have to avoid major pop-locked fights because they can bring me down to less than 1 FPS. My computer is not shite, in fact it runs even the more bugged DC betas quite smoothly with all settings cranked. Unfortunately, Planetside is just a pig, due probably more to the massive amount of player packets being sent every which way and back than any other factor so I'm not all in an uproar about it. It just sucks, especially considering that back in the day (pre-Core Combat) while I used to have the odd bit of lag, I never had anything so excrutiatingly painful as sustained periods below 10 FPS, and I could run Teamspeak just fine.

I don't use Teamspeak because frankly im a casual player, and lets be honest I really prefer listen to my mp3/CD while im playing amist screams and explosion then a whole bunch of high-pitch headache inducing kids screaming at me though my speakers when all i want to do is have some fun....

TS is mandatory in my outfit as well. We also have our own TS server. After using TS consistantly ingame, I can't imagine going back to typing. As to lag issues, we always run one of the lower end codecs to ensure it doesn't slow down the game. If your experiencing problems, try a lower end codec (voice is not as clear, but you can communicate). Biggest problem with TS is comm discipline. We have had to start enforcing comm discipline, to ensure the chatter stays to a minimum. But if you setup your channels and whisper modes correctly, you can minimize any excess chatter.

Why do I not use TeamSpeak? Simple. Planetside uses up literally ALL of my memory. If I hit Alt-Tab, I'm looking at (no kidding) a five-minute wait time while resources are re-allocated and shuffled around to be able to squeeze in the graphics for Windows. Once that's over, it still takes about half a minute for anything I click on to respond, but it doesn't matter anyway since by the time I can get it to respond at all, either the squad will have dumped me for being a slacker, PS will have randomly frozen up completely with no hope of return, or I'll be so behind on current events that it'll take me ten minutes to catch up to whatever else the squad is doing. Not to mention trying to run anything in the background during PS playing, regardless of how small it is, causes my framerate to go through the floor and my lag to go through the ceiling.
