I'd have to go with Windows as a favourite, because It's what I know most about, and it's nice to use. Sure, XP is a hog, but without Windows and the Microsoft (or Micro$oft for all you Linux junkies), we wouldn't be playing PlanetSide in the first place.

The problems with Windows though, are -

It's Bloated

It's full of hidden shit (basically, Windows is a spyware)

It's not secure

There are a shitload of viruses floating around the internet right now, and around 90% of them are written for Windows OS's, so people say "oooh, I'll just get Linux"
WRONG
When Linux becomes more popular, people will just write viruses for Linux and Windows!

I am also a Linux user, but the thing that puts most people off from Linux is the level of difficulty/learning curve, ie

Installing a program

Windows - Check hardware specs, run installer, enjoy

Linux - (if the program is not an RPM or DEB package)
Check hardware specs, unzip tar, check dependencies, sort out dependencies, do more shit, open up command line, compile, enjoy - EFFORT

Anyway, enough of my random hodge podge, I just got home from work and I'm pissed off.

Remember -

A Windows computer is like a Hummer, can be driven anywhere.

A Linux computer is like a BMW, its damn nice to drive, but there are some places it just cant go.

A Mac computer is like a Ford KA, it can only be driven slowly, on the easiest of roads.

Seriously, I played Dark Forces, F-117A Stealth Fighter, and Chuck Yeager's Flight Sim on DOS. DOS kicked ass.

Then there was WinBlows ME. I use XP and like it, but ME blows. COMPLETELY. WE CHANGED TO PIRATED XP THREE WEEKS BEFORE XP'S OFFICIAL RELEASE BECAUSE ME COMPLETELY CRASHED ON US. NONE OF MICROSOFT'S RECOVERY TOOLS WORKED!

So we should go back to the days of DOS. No graphical shit. Just white letters on black.

EDIT: I'm serious. I want a version of DOS that works with Windows programs, and not Command Prompt.

Macs Suck, linux is nice and i would most likely use it if i could do everything with it as well or better than i can with windows.

All i can say is windows(recent incarnations, ME is the worst of all OS's) is a decent OS that is for me stable, and not that hard to figure out.

But a totaly windows compatable Linux would pwn all (if it performes at the same level)

Linuix is too much of a bitch to learn and use. You have to run like 6 different Command line interface things in order to play a movie and god I hate RPM's.

Let's get something clear about the virus situation. Linux and Unix have security holes, just like Windows does. However, Windows is more popular, therefore the virus-writers focus their efforts on it so they can get more bang for their buck. If Linux were the dominant market force, virus-writers would be just as focused and probably just as successful.

That "Applies ot all versions" stuff is BS. The difference between WinME, and XP, Slackware, and Mandrake are NIGHT and FSCKING DAY.


That said, I use windows. I dont care for linux, as I prefer functionality over everything, and windows is the most efficient. Plus, being used in 90% of the world means that Im literate in the workplace.

Ehhe, I'm not a unix guru but I'm pretty sure Vash isn't an expert either ;) I don't think the amount of colors has to do with UNIX/Linux, prolly more so with X Servers (I think XFree is available for alot of platforms, be it Linux or some sort of BSD) or something. Also, I don't think there is such a thing as Unix OS, it is more of a standard. You have the *BSD line, the Solaris line etc. There's also no such thing as a unix processor, what you mean is probably just that alot of *nixes only work on 64-bit RISC processors, which is exactly why Torvalds started Linux, not sure on that though :P

Anyways my fav would be Linux if it wouldn't be such a bitch to setup for games. For that reason alone I run Windows (win2k to be exact). I'll switch to Linux as soon as I figure that out.

Yes, color has nothing to do with UNIX or Linix it has to do with the GUI.

I didn't read through all that stuff which version of UNIX are you running? HP UX, AIX, Solaris, etc.

Oh, BeOS > all but its mostly dead now so I vote Windows for everyday home users. Linux is great but not for everyone, yet.
