WHy is teh sound it planetside so weak. Nothing sounds like it backs any punch. I wanna hear a vanguard shoot its 150mm sound like a tank cannon not someone stomp on the ground. I want my cycler to sound like it is shooting bullets not beans.

i should hear a reaver from 100 meters away not .00000005

does anyone else agree with me?

DUFFMAN, NEVER DIES! ONLY THE ACTORS, WHO PORTRAY HIM!

anyway, do you have it set to 3D Hardware support in the sound options settings? That made a big difference to me from MIles or whatever it was on, Software Emulation maybe...

They should still redo the sounds...make them a little more omnipotent sounding....plus while they are working on it...they should change the music....it sucks...i mean, who hasnt turned it off yet??

I want them to tweak the tracer sounds. If someone is firing a machine gun at me. I wanna hear every bullet whizz by me.

I came back to PS after Call of Duty. There, it sounds like they've got a microphone in a sound lab, shooting Thompsons into sides of beef. Here, it sounds like noises you'd make with your mouth as a kid. Some guns are all right, but others aren't... ok, most suck. Sweepers are a nasty example, they don't even sound like a shotgun. Its BOOM clak BOOM, not shoom shoom. You've got to pronounce the gunshots here.

I think that it's good right now. Not too loud not too soft.

I like the sounds, i just with they had more of an impact. I love the music too buddy, needs more.

True, some sounds sound well... crappy. The guns would be easier to define if they didn't all sound so soft. They should be LOUD, making the need for silenced weapons in spec ops.

IT would be cool for the gun sound to be more liek AA:SF with EAX on, they guns are sweet sounding. big thinks make big boom's scilenced thigns make little click's. this game everthing is is bland

make them a little more omnipotent sounding

...

What the hell does "Make them a little more [all knowing] sounding even mean?

Anyways the only change I would go for is make vehicles louder to those on the outside and quieter to those actually in it. I mean flying a Mossy is almost deafening if you're in the cockpit but to people outside they can barely hear it.

I thought Omnicent (sp) was all knowing, omnipotent is all powerful.

I think the sounds in planetside suck. Especially aircraft sounds.. When a reaver comes flying down really low right over my head I wanna hear that shit LOUD AS HELL.

I agree completely. But I guess they may have just "nerfed" the gore and sounds to give it more of a cartoonish feel to let the kids play (and their parents approve/pay)

Omnipotent means all-powerful not all-knowing.

Good call. Apparently it's been a looooong day today >_<

Original intended point does stand though: Who the hell uses omnipotent to describe a sound?

Omnipresent anyone? :(

I rather like the Cycler sound, quiet, almost like a silence weapon. Is a nice thing to have really.

I thought Omnicent (sp) was all knowing, omnipotent is all powerful.

That's right, but you still wouldn't say a sound is all powerful. It still doesn't quite make sense, since a sound's power can only extend to the effects of sound. You'd just say it was powerful.

I agree. The sounds in ps lack the 'oomph' of their real life counterparts. I can hit a hammer against a table and end up with a more epic sound than the chick of a 150mm gun in PS.

omnibus?
omnivorous?

I do agree that some of the sounds are weak, but I happen to like most of the VS sounds (since they dont really have real-world counterparts to be based upon). I mean, who doesn't like the zappy lazor beam noises? Also, The TR chaingun has a nice noise, i think. While it may not be "accurate", it is most certainly pleasant on the ear. (I'm a musician; some visual artists find pleasure in the way an object looks, as a musician i find pleasure in some sounds.)

I have to say it does annoy me being Mowed by a Mosquito (last night) and to not have heard it coming!

(I was standing on top of a hill with nothing else around - The mossie resorted to mowing 'cos with Surge and Nano I was taking too long to kill it would seem)

If you want more "punch" in the sounds, i.e. you want to feel them through the floor, then I suppose you could alter the 3dsounds.wav file and tick the Read-Only checkbox so it doesn't get re-downloaded. The only thing you have to worry about is making sure all the sounds stay exactly the same length, or you WILL have to re-download. However, if you want totally new or different-sounding sounds, then you'll have to petition the devs for them. Personally, I think modifying the 150mm cannon's sound so it has 500% more bass should be enough for anyone.

P.S. You can open up 3dsounds.idx in Notepad to get a general idea of where all the sounds are in the file.

So long as they make the changes optional. The last thing I want with my 512 is for PS to require even MORE RAM.

How would changing the sounds require more ram?

I'm under 18, and I have a full understanding of Queenside's point. This may sound pathetic, but my parents, who are otherwise quite un-strict, will not let me play most M games, and if Planetside had had gore and bloodcurdling screams, I'm ashamed to say I would not have been able to play it. So I thank the Devs for including people like me in their prospective players list :) .

It depends on how they are changed. If they made them more complex or gave them higher quality, or even just made them more frequent (the thought of needing to process the sound that each individual bullet makes is scary), more RAM would be required to pass all that data to the processor.

i dont care about people screeming and wahtnot. I just want a tank to sound like a tank. right now thye sound weaker than an 80 lb woman punching a punching bag. :Thats Weak:

make two sets of sounds just like they have skins for vehicles low detail adn high

TheNoob, no where in this thread does it mention screams, and it's certainly not about gore. That's not even in the same ballpark.

Are you suggesting that if a tank sounded like a tank, or if vehicles were audible beyond the 5m range, that it would push Planetside into an M rating? That's just alarmist. The sounds in PS are weak because they did a poor job of it, not because they wanted to push the rating lower.
