I've heard a lot about this and TBH it scares the beeheebies out of me. Do I need to be bothered about this and will it make much difference to performance?

Lastly, you guys know of any good sites where I can get good info on flashing?

1. Which BIOS? Motherboard or Graphics Card?
Graphics card BIOS flashing is risky as fuck, so I wouldn't bother with that (only good if you know what bios can be flashed onto what card)

2. Check your motherboard manufacturer site, but, I just had a look for you, and MSI don't have any specialist flashing software (gotta do it the old way, boot floppy)

The thing is, It won't make any difference In performence, so you don't need to worry.

Instead, I reccomend you do the following...

Goto http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp and you want - Platform/nForce Drivers - Unified Driver - <insert version of windows/linux here>

If you haven't bothered updating chipset drivers, shame on you, nvidia manage to squeeze out performence!

Also, restart your pc, and in the BIOS, make sure the graphics card on the mobo is disabled.

Hope that helps :D

BIOS is how your OS talks to your hardware. It is written in assembly and performs low level I/O requests for your OS.

That being said, if your BIOS is 2 years old, guess what, there CAN be a performance increase if you switch to a NEW bios. Remember your computer is as slow as your slowest component and if your BIOS is not accuratly using the hardware resources it has at it's fingertips it could be slowing you down.

Generally speaking, Updating BIOS is not used to speed up a computer. You would generally only update BIOS if there was a problem or something was not working the way it was purchased to. If your computer is running sluggish, try new drivers first.

If you have a Video card like a 5900 Ultra or a non ultra you can flash the bios up to a 5950's it ups the voltages a bit and lets you OC the card to the same speeds as a 5950, and it performs exactly the same.

I manages to pick up about 1 fps in Ps making sure i had new bioses.
