wouldn't it be good if you could see bullet holes in your body armour,

More things for the video to draw on the screen=lower FPS
Cool idea though

I think most people have bullet holes turned off, since it's a drain on performance. I like the idea, however, but I would rather see scruffed up armor instead. It's nice to be wearing a nice, gleaming set of armor, but I think there's something to be said about armor that's nicked and scratched, with the paint chipped away in some places. That type of suit would have to be a skin, however, since creating a scratch would be just as difficult as creating a bullet hole. But something to think about.

Yeah, that would drop fps...

just be good to look battle worn, if fps wasnt an issue,
you could even have bandages over wounds once a medic has healed you or lose your helmet

well...they could make it where the normal skin for armor is scuffed etc...that way it wouldnt mess with FPS....just take away shiny completely

As with most things that aren't crucial to gameplay you can make it optional. For us who have machines that could handle that kind of load without getting a noticable drop in performance, I'm sure it would be most a most welcome addition.
The devs spend so much time trying to get the balance right, and adding large updates (capitol buildings), but what I think PlanetSide really need, is some polishing on a more subtle, and finer level. Such as the above mentioned suggestions.

Ya, the Devs are great with the hammer and chisel, but they need more work with the sandpaper...

It'd be cool, just toggleable, and it could be like the Tribes 2 damage, nice and shiny and whatnot at first, and ripped to shreds at low damage. It would help when picking out targets when sniping too

Thats whan enhanced targeting is for.

not everyone has adv targeting. It would be like the vehicles, you don't need adv targeting to see them smoking with the flashing headlights.

Does the bullet holes really cause that much of a FPS strain?
I havn't noticed much of a strain... (on this low-end machine)

I think it would look cool, however I think that the devs do need to go down with sandpaper on the games engine. lol

I am still waiting for the engineers to get the armor bar love the devs talked about giving us 6 months ago so we could tell when someone needed us.

If it was toggleable it wouldn't be too bad. It would kind of take away from adv targeting though. If you see a scuffed or bulletfilled person, you could assume he is wounded.

Good point. Although.. Don't vehicles get shot up pretty badly, visually? Bullet holes. Sparks. Blinking headlights. Does this also take away from the targeting implant?
