I know planetside runs with alot of lag on most comps, but mine is especialy laggy. Compared to the computer at my dads house, its not that great.

What would be the best single upgrade I could make to my comp for hopefully not much money?

NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X
SB Audigy Audio
1.2GHz AMD Duron processor
512MB RAM

well...I'd say up your RAM to 1024 as it will reduce lag, if your not having FPS problems. Your processor is a bottleneck too, but hey, even the governments top secret supercomputers lag in big battles...

Zap! Wrong forum.

Yeah, but no one looks in the tech forum. It will probably get moved anyway.

Cheaper - 512 mb RAM

The processor would really help too though. I'd have to say RAM first, then if you got the $ get the processor.

You could upgrade to 1 gig of ram if it supports it. And a new processor. Those would be the best. What does that board support? You could get a decent sized upgrade for almost nothing. Maybe even a new mobo and ram and proccessor for like 200 that would outdo that.

Whats your dads comp, out of curiosity. And what type and speed ram is yours? Let me get the Sherlock holmes smiley again. --> pimp: <-- everyone in the tech forum should be required to have one in there sig. :p

Radeon 9600 XP AGP
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
2.80 GHz Pentium 4
512 RAM

Runs smooth as a baby's back side I might add. Even in the largest battles, I get green stats across the board.

Interesting that you get no lag in big battles with only 512 megs of ram, what are your settings at?
On my alternate machine, running P4 1.7 with 512 RD-ram, it lagged until I got the extra 512 boosting it to 1 gig, then it ran just fine. Of corse the main machine never had a problem heh.

Get this, my video settings are set at high quality across the board. 512 is the recomended ammount for planetside. 512 is all you need.

Phaelon

512 is all you think you might need, but Planetside is optimized to use much more than that.

On a computer that has 1 gig it uses around 690 MBs.

Is it possible this thing with some people only needing around 512k has to do with a game problem. Maybe they have something that is making it run better on there machines? Or is it just low settings?

it could be fast memory, in dual channel config, i've been trying to figure out the thing to PS FPS, And i have a feeling that it may not jsut be the larget ammount of memory but that fact you get alot more bandwidth because most people seem to only have one stick before they upgrade. Perhaps you have two 256 sticks and that give ti added bandwidth to make a profound difference
