How do you set up an SCSI setup with CD drives? How does it work differently?
Smaug
2004-02-22, 07:19 PM
Its not actually SCSI I dunno why it says that. And its not cd-roms its 2 HDDs. I have them hooked up to a SATA RAID card.
Rbstr
2004-02-22, 07:22 PM
thats probably why, windows probably thinks they are scsi becuase SATA wasn't around when XP was made.
That a nice comp smaug.

What are the obvious reasons?
Posting the name of your PC doesn't bring you any risk.

The name of my PC is my real name. I don't really like giving out my name.

Don't leave your name as the computer name, that is a bad idea from a security standpoint.

If your computer name is your real name it IS a security risk. The biggest mistakes in this field are made because people don't think about something before they do it.
Do not make your computer name your real name, it poses a security threat because now someone can attach an IP address to a real life name, and it gives them a place to go for code referencing and person referencing.
Ait'al
2004-02-27, 05:09 PM
Yes, but if its a fake real name you can set up something so that anyone who does try then accessess a totally fake acounts etc linked with your IP and is automatically tracked and has there info sent to authorities or whatever. 8) So dont think about hacking my comp because it will be riddles with crap like that.
Anyway you can put in fake real names that dont link to anything and it will fuck with people. :p
Computer Name: Jacob Anthony Cathrope, Assistant Secratary of State
:D J A C A S S :p
If its totally fake it a security measure. :brow: And can make people look dumb if they try to do something.

Oi! keep the flames away from the tech forum, some comps might over heat.
Phaelon
2004-02-28, 12:11 AM
That is not the point, I was merely stating it is a security risk, and there are people that do it. Whether you don't or not is irrelevant.
You actually think you could get information to authorities if I hit you? Do you have any idea how the internet works? DO you even know what BGP means? Do you know what IP Spoofing is or what man in the middle is? Seriously man not bashing you, but don't act like you got it all figured out, because that is when it really hits the fan.
My comment, from a security stand point and working in the field for the past 4 years, is that it is a good security measure to not have your real name as your computer name.
On a further note if I could actually see that information on your computer, you would be in serious other trouble, because that means i had access to your internal Private network, and now I am a good guy, I am on the inside and can access all your resources.
This is not a flame towards ya.
