Today we were holding a base from a VS zerg. The only problem is the base was not linked to any other VS basees. This is not the first time I've been involved in defending a base from a VS zerg that they cannot even hack. What gives?? This post has no meaning really, I'm just bored at work.

Nah, generally the VS do this to keep all your forces contained while they Nija hack ure other bases.

alot of VS have this "die gloriously protecting our base when theres no point we're gonna lose!" mentality, so it could be that, or it was a tactic to draw away you're forces

and you guys also have to relize that half of the PS population does this for XP. Not because they care about capping a base or not. Im personally not one of those people but i know people that are. And the VS suck..... Jk i enjoy the occasional VS. So yeah some of you guys have to relize its about XP most of the time.

You can thank Instant Action for most of those. I remember being in an hour and a half long fight with the TR over a tower in the middle of Ishundar (really sad that the TR took that long to take it) simply because that was where Instant Action dumped them. The TR controlled the entire continent, and we were far away from any hackable base, but that was the only spawn. Since the TR so nicely presented targets to kill...why not fight? Got the better part of two BRs (low BR character, admittedly) from that scrap. With the new poplocks, sometimes IA sticks you in places where you can't really go anywhere, but that's the only place it will send you.
Who is dumber, the vs for trying to attack a base with no link, or you for dutifully defending it?

There must be something missing here. What kind of base was it? Sure it wasn't the last Tech Plant on the continent or something? Was it full with modules? There's usually a reason for crazy things (unless it's crazy people doing the crazy things -- and even then..).

I almost feel sorry for the VS now.
All the empire jumpers who went over to the VS for the lasher take up valuable player slots on heavily populated continents, and all they do is zerg since they have new characters and not the certs to do commando operations.
Meanwhile, all the VS vets are sitting in the warpgate waiting to get in.
That's what happened last night on Cyssor. Not once did the VS succeed in taking out our tech gen or anything else. They just tried to pound their way into Gunuku.

I was with my TR char's outfit on Emerald last night practicing on Ishundar and whatnot, and the same 4 guys must have attacked Baal like 600 times before they got the idea that we weren't moving.

TR defended it probubly(sp) because it was a tech plant or it would of shattered their link for mods or what not, there is always a reason for defense.
That's kind of my point. If there is a good reason for defending it, there is a complementary good reason for attacking it.

good reasons to defend:
-lots of XP without danger of losing the base
-protecting the techplant gen
-protecting modules
good reasons to zerg a base you can't take:

Thank you, this is so true; since the last patch, we've been getting more than our fair share of trail newbs and otherwise usless people...

To answer the original question.
Yes.
I play as VS and all I see around me is stupid players that shoot their lashers at afterburning Mosq's while their Pulsar sits idle on their back. Magriders that charge into point blank fights with a couple Van's or Prowlers.
But to the situation you discribed I see that happen with all the empires. People go to where the fight is and really could give two shits about wheather or not they can get the hack on.
