How about some REAL melee weapons

I was playing one of sonys other online games recently called "Infantry" in the Eol Crater zone and I think that some of the things in that game could be implimented into planetside and add some fun to the game. They have normal combat swords, chain swords + chain fists (extra kinetic damage), and power swords and power fists (extra plasma damage).

How about it guys? Personally I like the idea of adding some real melee weapons to the game, but I want to see what you think.

I'm not against a bayonet on a gun. Punisher maybe? But I dont want people using it as a staple weapon running around all over the place with their mouse button held down.

I think I didnt elaborate enough

using these advanced melee weapons would require large amounts of stamina, if not ammo (fuel) for the chainblades and plasma weapons

they would take up a pistol slot and WOULD NOT BE ONE HIT KILL, just like the knives except better reach, a wider hit arc, and slightly more damage for the basic weapons

there should never be one hit kill melee weapons

I wouldn't mind seeing a melee attack on the weapons, similar to the way it works in CoD. Maybe give Empire rifles the option to attach a bayonet (slightly increases the minimum size of the CoF, no change to maximum) to deal extra damage in CC. Combine melee attacks with a quick burst of forward speed so the other guy can't just back away (making them marginally useful in some situations, unlike the BF42 ones.) But dedicated melee weapons like swords and maces would be really out of place in a game like PS.

Pull out your empire knife and attach it to your empire MA rifle (possibly SA?). Give each MA rifle an additional firing mode where the knife activates after about 1 second (prevent the noise from giving away your position while cycling through modes), and your attack becomes a bayonnet stab.

But the knife is a standard weapon everywhere like your armor. So no.

Another cool idea but a useless addition to the game, Planetside is a futuristic combat game in the future you dont want to get close enough to be able to hit with a melee weapon.

What game have you been playing? Because the one I have was up until very recently dominated by near point blank shotgun battles. Not I can tell if you shaved this morning range, more like i can tell what color your eyes are range.

Im a sniper, gauss, and im great with the Sweeper and Scat MAX when things go indoors. But I personally dont want to be that close out in the open.
