if planetside works ok with 512 memory or should I take a hit and go for a gig. Currently buiding a computer (so I don't have to commandeer a friends and his characters). If I buy 512 I can go ahead an buy another expensive part. If I buy a gig then building this puppy is going to take a little bit longer. Eventually I would upgrade to a gig though...just don't know if I should do it now or later...
What does everyone reccommend?

WILL run with 512mb, though you'll notice a huge improvement in loading times and generally in with 1gb.

What he said. I would go with the gig, unless the difference in what that expensive part upgrade is really major. (IE: Radeon 9000->Radeon 9800 Pro)

Buy the gig unless you have a REALLY crappy graphics card. In that case, get a better graphics card. Smooth gameplay is generally more important than long load times. I have only 512 and I can usually stand the loads... sometimes it freezes during large battles (lots of textures) but that seems to have gotten better recently.

well I would try to get a gig, if possible(meaning you don't go from a 9800pro to a 9200, or a P4 to a cel), and i foyu don't be sure to remeber what kind of 512 stick you bought so you can mach pairs for Dual channel

Get the gig of memory, it will work out much better in the long run.

Get the gig right away. Anything else is going to have its price cut in half or more by the time you buy them if you have to wait. So you win!
Asuming its a month or so.

Ah no, even though many new prta are coming out the price in not going to be cut in half for a long time, did the rad 9800 pro get cut in half when the XT's came out?
The p4c's are also sugested to be sold at the exact same price as the p4e counter parts.

XT is not a new generation of card either tho Rbstr, it is merely a clock upgrade. When the next set of graphics cards come out requiring a PCI-E slot, the 9800 will go down significantly.
Also when DDR2 comes out lots of things are going to drop in price.

www.newegg.com has some of the cheapest prices you can find.
Else go to www.pricewatch.com and search for your desired component.

Find them on Newegg.com and then Go to ZipZoomFly.com and look for the same thing. They both have no shipping&handling and ZZF usually have a slightly cheaper price and gets the newer ram in quicker. Newegg.com has a really good thing to search for stuff, so its better to look there first and then compare prices.
